About The magically lit arches of a covered market (Bazaar) in Iran, where an immense variety of goods is being sold provide a unique atmosphere, and a taste of the middle east. Definately worth to linger and stray for endless hours.

Comments, as always, are highly appreciated!

Cheers,

Hugo

Wonderful lighting and colors! The place's atmosphere was captured very well. Congrats, Hugo.

Danish Abadi   {K:1468} 4/8/2004
Dear Hugo, you have had of course the opportunity to smell all those kind of curries and that stuff which gives an 1500 century feeling, don?t you think so?
Great capture of atmosphere.
By the way I don?t know if it has been your flash light or daylight, it seems that it is a little bit too much blue and that?s why it decrease the warmness of that atmosphere which I think that you wanted to show us, I did decrease it, you will see here
Best regards

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184981} 4/8/2004
Hi Danish, Thanks for your comment. I rarely use a flash, but I was near the entrance of the covered market, the daylight casting the blueish light. I chose this spot deliberately, because I like the contrast of colours graduately fading into eachother, as if entering another world. Interesting thought, though. Thanks!

Cheers,

Hugo

Verena Rentrop   {K:14426} 4/8/2004
thought a while between your version and the one from Danish, finally my 12 points (;)) goes to your version, the blue is leading myself into the store and if I look in the ceiling of the back I hope your triptych leads us in???

Cheers,
Verena

Superb photo Hugo, I cannot make out any of the prices though ;-)

Roger Williams   {K:83282} 4/8/2004
I see you are making good use of one of NPH's best features--the ability to combine illumination of very different colour temperatures into the same photograph without one making the other look terrible. Looks like a fascinating place. Look forward to seeing the other two of this triptych. (tryptich?)

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184981} 4/8/2004
Hi Roger, thanks for your comment. Tryptich or Triptych... I had to look it up in a dictionary: Triptych it is....;o)

That's why i like the NPH. Fuji Press is a bit more versatile, though....

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184981} 4/8/2004
Not cheap, considering the price of film these days.... The NPH 400 goes for ?8,70 in Holland these days, Stephen....;o) On the other hand, I bought my Yashica for virtually nothing in Iran....)

Jose Ignacio (Nacho) Garcia Barcia   {K:92089} 4/8/2004
great tones.

Oh my god Hug,.... What keept you away from me so long??? Nice to hear from you (it would be even nicer if I would upload something new...) but I am here around... Nice work indeed with great color flow from blue to red!

Another series to look forward to, and as always I keep comming back to see the next. Thank you for your own comment - it was your regular use of the triptych that inspired me to give it a go :)

Craig Hanson   {K:7794} 4/9/2004
The blue works fine for me! I feel the outdoor light creeping in. Danish's version is also good, but looks more indoors to me.

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184981} 4/9/2004
Hi Verena, Thanks for your comment, and I've just posted the answer to your question....;)

Raamses Ortiz   {K:4408} 4/9/2004
Hi Hugo,

Great colors!! I have to mention the details on the arches, their contruction (you can se see the brigs the are made of) and how decorated they are. Yuo show us a lot, not only on the arches, but also about the market too.

Congrats!!

Raamses.

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 4/9/2004
I have the feeling that this is going to be a very interesting series so, I hope there are more "arches" coming soon
This first one of your series shows us an amazing variety of objects and details which definitely give us a good idea of the great atmosphere this Iranian Bazaar. Interesting and captivating image also on account of the fantastic interior architecture.
Excellent perspective, good lighting and very nice warm colours.
Well composed and superbely captured image
Fantastic work, Hugo.
Thanks for the congratulations message. It was greatly appreciated
Best regards - Emgy

This is really great! Also a jornalism photo my friend. Very impressive this traditional shop! I am sure you can find many interesting things there! The top of that building looks FANTASTIC!

Lori Stitt   {K:74437} 4/12/2004
This one is my favorite, Hugo! I LOVE IT!

The vivid oranges, and the bright blue tones, it's just awesome. Not to mention the fact that I do have a weakness for arches!

beautifully captured, great composition...

I like the person, and the 'part' of another person, adds much interest!

I like the coloring the way it is!

Nice job,

Lori ;)

tom rumland   {K:14874} 4/13/2004
hugo,

beautiful colors, textures, detail, and subject(s). this is hard to nail down in words. after looking through the whole series, i chose to start with the first one. the others will take more thinking and a different mood on my part (6am in vegas). all are excellent. this one in particular has so many textures and colors contrasting with each other and the situation itself. don't know if that makes sense. the exposure is dead-on perfect. looks like you shot this from "outside" a store and managed to capture the color, contrast, and brightness transition expertly. beautiful!!

getting shots like this one usually give me a headache but this is so fluid and apparently effortless. i could nitpick about the minor blowouts of the objects on the opposite wall, but i won't. i can't. i don't think this could've been avoided or captured any better. wonderful technical feat on a very difficult subject and conditions. definite 7. impressive, excellent shot!!

take care,
tom

Good interior dear Hugo.

Zsolt Radákovits   {K:7763} 4/13/2004
Dear Hugo!

Wonderful subject, Superb colors. First i thought in 6, then i found your comment to Danish, then it is 7 from me. Sometimes the conditions determine us and our and the cameras' possibilities.

You are right, the flash would change the pic and the atmosphere.
Kindest regards,
Radák

Kim Culbert   {K:36791} 4/14/2004
You've definitely got the borders down now... I like this look a lot better... not only does it compliment the piece, it also is neutral in colour so that the power of your art can jump forth.
I really like your framing on this image, as the little bit of wall on the right works as a natural frame for the colour and activity within.
I'm not sure about the person on the right though, as they are headless and not really a solid focus for the image. The other person adds a nice sense of scale, though!
What a beautiful location! Magical, and so different from anything I'd see here in Canada. You really captured the intricate detail in the ceiling and the walls... stunning character!

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184981} 4/14/2004
Thanks Kim! That helps alot! Highly appreciated, and, again, you have a point with the man leaning over the counter.... Not much time to wait, though.

Cheers,

Hugo
