Good morning,
short night ;), so my guess was wrong, but again I find a leading theme into the magic arches...blue carpet or light stones, what comes next? What have done that the light stones are so bright, was the source so strong?
All together a little bit to soft for me, but you know that is my very personal opinion. Anyway very well done!

Morning, Verena, The lightsource is the sun peeping through the vent holes in the ceiling. At noon, it provides an almost vertical light source...
I know it is a bit soft for you, likewise my comments on contrast on your work....;o) I guess that's what we refer to as a part of a "personal style"... )

..hello Hugo..
I must admit that also this photo is fantastic. not mistakes a great blow. the perspective and the effect of entirety! one studied composition perfectly and carefully! it appeals to to a lot also the exposure to me with the light of the lampposts... it is right also holding centered the end of the "tunnel" of arches and not the beginning to the apex. sin for the cars, but being a TRAVEL-Cityscape is OK! bigggg

Hi Hugo, i can see why this is a favourite of yours. It was the stepping stones that attracted me to this image, and that was viewing it on the thumbnail. Very nice image - congrats. There appears to be a little dust on the slide and maybe some lens flare? Do you use a lens hood? These 2 small criticisms however don't distract from a good photo. Nice to see your work (as usual) and i really enjoy the chit chat comments from you, i value your opinion. All the best, Neil

Hi Neil, thanks for your comment. I know there are some dust specks. The glass of my flatbed scanner is not what it used to be. Although I wiped it off before scanning, there was still some dust.... I always use a lens hood, and I think the lens flare (in the dark patches on the right) is also due to the ageing scanner.... I desperately need to buy myself a new one.
Likewise, I'm also looking foreward to your comments. Very honest, constructive and meaningful. Thanks!

Hi Roby, Thanks for your very kind comments! I really appreciate them. The light is direct sunlight, falling through holes in the roof, used as a natrual airconditioning. I agree it is a pitty about the cars, but then again, it also expresses the atmosphere of the closed basaar, a center of life, even when it's closed....

Hi Walt, Thanks for your comment! I always appreciate them. As to your enquirey to the Nikkor lens, I'd rather send this by email, but as I don't have it, this'll have to do.
The nikkor 28-105 mm is a very useful lens, on the lower segment of the Nikkor range. Downsides are a the relative large minimal aperture (f3.5-4.5) and it's plastic feel. I don't think it'll stand through the sandstorm that ruined my FinePix S602z.
The good things are its range (althoug a 24 mm would be even better) and the relative low cost. Although I bought it with my F100 as a package deal (a show model) it is good value for money. And, the lens is very quiet on autofocus, much quieter than my 135-400 Sigma lens and the 135 mm Macro Sigma lens.

Hi Hugo,
I'm very busy these days with college, thats why i'm not active at the moment. But I stopped by to comment on this beautiful image while waiting for the instructor to start his computer. I really like the perspective, it shows the light spots as leading lines to the end of the souq. The curvature of the spot patters is really eye pleasing, I like how you captured that.
By the way, "Turn to Clear Vision" and "Between Red and Yellow" were displayed at my university's art gallery :)

I like this photo too. Especally how the arches go all the way to the end and then left. Is this a outside street or inside a building? I cant really tell. It's like there too much light to be outside. One more great picture to you collection.

On the leopard photo, You're right, I can't remember what the settings were, the new system forces me to put something in so I try to guess. :) I know that's bad man..I just don't know what else to do.

The moment I saw this photo, my eyes were caught by the round light spots on the street. To me, they are what really makes the image. Very singular indeed!
These arches aren't as pectacular as the ones I saw in Arches I, but they aren't certainly less interesting.
I like this photo not only cause it shows an unusual scene, but also cause the image is well composed and the perspective again great. Moreover, the lighting and the colours are warm and soft and, together with the moderate contrast, they create a magic atmosphere. The only thing I find a little distracting is the presence of the two bright lights in the distance, just behind the walking man. I know they were there and you couldn't make them disappear but, if this had been my photo, I would have decreased slightly their brightness and contrast in PS. However this is a minor detail that do not not affect the beauty of this image.

As always, this is really great!!!! I love the way the arches give you the sense of direction and tranquility... The "stepping stops of light" as you name them seem to be inviting you to follow them through the arches... What more can I say... your picture is really astonishing... Love it!!!

Do I gather from your replies that you deliberately choose soft focus for this kind of scene? I'm not sure I understand that. Could you explain? Not criticism, you understand! If I had to guess I would say it might be to hide some of the gritty grimy details that would otherwise be too clear and distracting--a soft veil over grim reality. I really like this image for the reasons so many have given.

Hi Roger, I see why my reply to Verena can be confusing. I didn't deliberately go for a soft focus, and the original print is razor sharp, but I loose a lot of quality in the scan, as my scanner is slowly beginning to fail on me.
With "softness" I referred to the tones and the contrasts. Verena likes them quite hard, but I like a more softer combination on brightness and contrast (The lightspots are still quite hard, but it is the overall softness, also of the subject; the dusty covered street, the warmth of the tones, etc. Hope this explains it a bit....

My thoughts exactly on the stepping stones of light even before I read your 'about'. It certainly does have a certain appeal, a quietness about it making you want to linger and cast off the fatigue and rush of the day. Very interesting and elaborate arch work constructed in such a small area with more modern gridwork and wires below. Wonder why. Are the arches left from another time? The angle captured is great. To be truly honest I think the photo is regular... regular colors, composition... But photography is not only about technique is it? It's also about communication, telling stories, revealing new worlds and approaches to it... When I look at this shot(s) I see the way you saw that new world... the footsteps of light leading the way to calm...
