Chris this again is superb, I don't know how you managed to get the front of the barn perfectly lit. Superb !!

Chris, this is such a wonderful image! I'm not good with technical terms and compliments - so please accept my plain language :-) I love this shot, great feel of serenity and "a day well ended".

Charming image. Lovely.

Don Loseke   {K:32503} 4/23/2004
Suberb lighting on the building. Looks like you have used a big flash or one big reflector........ Great work. Don.

What a mood...! Absolutely stunning light, and so lovely colours! I love this Chris, it looks soooooo beautiful!

Absolutely nothing wrong with composition either, but still I get this itching in my eyes that I would love to see it cropped just a bit on right side and bottom. What do you think of that?

Chris Spracklen   {K:32552} 4/24/2004
Thanks, Kris ~ you could well be right. I might give it a go!
Thanks for your kind coimment.

This image poses in the sharpest possible form the question I often feel when looking at your beautiful pictures Chris. The question is "Is this real?" I simply cannot imagine a natural source of lighting that would illuminate the shadowed side of the barn like that. On the other hand I can imagine very easily the "dodge" tool being selectively applied to give the same effect. The conflict between "beautiful" and "unreal" is almost physically paintful to me. I wonder if you can understand, or even believe, that? I'll never make another remark like this, Chris, this really is the last time. But I did want you to understand this problem of mine--which is something I can't "access" within myself. Too deep down...

Fantastic landscape!

Hi Roger,
Don't stop being honest, or asking questions of me! It's always good to hear from you because you, more than just about anyone I know, are not content just to say, 'Beautiful picture, Chris'!
The light on the barn is 'real' ~ I took it at around 7.45 on a balm evening just two days ago. I did very little to it. It just happened to be that way. The sun was shining right on it.
The background and sunset is also 'real', it was taken around 5-10 minutes later, looking in a slightly different direction.
As you will have now worked out, (and maybe had before I wrote this comment), the picture as a whole is not exactly 'real'! 'Real' elements have been brought together as a composite in order to produce what I consider to be a pleasing image.
You and I are so different in our approaches to photography! That's why it's so good that we've 'palled up'! I appreciate the precision and 100%, (sometimes, mundane), reality of your work. I recognise your consummate skill as a photographer but, for myself, prefer something a little brighter and more vivid, even if it's not altogether 'real'.
Maybe it would help if Usefilm were to add a feature that photo.net have incorporated ~ that is, a box that you can tick if the picture is truly 'unmanipulated'. Then it would just be down to honesty ~ and I'd like to think I would score heavily in that department!!
Kind regards.
Have a wonderful Lord's Day.
Chris

GORGEOUS setting, Chris! Another spectacular one, you've been busy! I like everything about this image.

Very nice work,
Lori :)

Thanks for the considered reply, Chris. I too value the fact we've "palled up." I can't help this literalist thing that rules my reactions, but believe me, under your influence I've come a long way from the position I held when I first joined Usefilm. I guess I just enjoy finding "God" in the mundane realities... and prefer not to try to improve on the way HE did things. [Not entirely joking, there...] Today we had the bishop at our church for the service of inauguration of our new parish priest. An important day for our tiny, embattled community of the Faith.
