About Just for a change, no abstract this time. This is part of my new series I've decided to name "Blue Roses", It's almost a "straight from the camera" shot. No cropping, no PS except a level check up which made the photo a tad lighter. Comments and suggestions are always appreciated. Thanks for stopping by.
---- p.s. real shutter speed is 1/80

Too beautifull.
Congrats, this is definitely a very fine work.

Kristina Kohut   {K:49990} 4/29/2004
Oh so beautiful work you made here! You have given life to a doll! First I thought this was a composite of a few different shots and I thought that you decorated them together so well! But then I read that it's just one single photo, and I realise now that what makes it look like a few is that you were holding up something. Perhaps a newspaper, to not get it to bright. It's really wonderful, and very original!

Emanuele Calvagno   {K:14350} 4/29/2004
fantastici riflessi e bel blu.

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 4/29/2004
Thank you all my friends
Thanks for your attention and for following my work. I'm trying hard to keep up with my comments to all your photos but, there is so much wonderful work in here that this isn't an easy task, especially as I can't be here everyday and for long. I'll do as much as I can, though.
Love you all - Emgy

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 4/29/2004
Hi Kristina.
Thank you!
I wasn't holding anything up at all, just my camera and with both my hands cause the lens I used isn't one of the lightest I know. While walking on a street I saw this shop window (an optician shop)from the distance and it looked interesting to me on account of some reflections. Once I got closer, I noticed that this beautiful "head" was wearing spectacles in a funny way and I focused on it. I also liked the decorations and particularly the blue roses so, I completely forgot about the reflections. What you see here is no newspaper but the reflection of a house and the effect of natural light. I took one shot and left. After a cup of coffee in the same street, I thought of the reflections on that shop window again and I decided to go back for more shots. So.... no composition of two different images, just plain luck and a matter of finding the right spot to capture the best reflections and light.
Hugs

Dr. Rafael Springmann   {K:86479} 4/30/2004
Dear Emgy,
I recognized you as the author of this photo before I saw your name despite the fact that is a new series. Allow me to disagree with you when you state that this photo is not abstract. There is no questiuon that it is a masterpiece, but I think that it is at least semi-abstract. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Regards,
Rafi

Paolo De Maio   {K:34166} 4/30/2004

Rob Ernsting   {K:8919} 4/30/2004
Fantastic work, Emgy, I love it. It could be made for a professional leaflet or advertising. The very minor suggestion I would make is the light dispersion on the fluffy feathers, a shade too light. Near perfection, congrats, keep on doing this kind of work. Regards, Rob.

Carmem A. Busko   {K:48763} 4/30/2004
wow, I can?t breath!
Whar a beautiful photoart composition, Emgy!
Stunning!
Congrats,

Robert Currie   {K:3241} 4/30/2004
I thought this shot was set up in a studio at first, and I was trying to work out how you did it, then I read your comments and realised that it was your good eye for an 'everyday' shot. Beautiful! It would probably be very difficult to try and set up a shoot like this! Robert

. .   {K:16329} 4/30/2004
Ha! I opened this right away because it popped off the page, and without looking at the name. I'm sooooo surprised! :)

And I'm impressed that it's without PS. The camera angle captures a clear subject while allowing the play of light and shadow to make interesting shapes and depths around it. The askew glasses give a wonderfully whimsical sense to it all. The blue is unique and unusual. It's a stiking and marvelous image, Emgy!!!!

Robert Currie   {K:3241} 4/30/2004
Hi, just popped back for another look! Robert

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 4/30/2004
Hi Robert,
Thank you!!!
You made me smile
You're COOL!!!!!

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 4/30/2004
Elisa, the askew glasses are one of the things I like most of all in this photo! They're so cool!
Good publicity for the glasses that that optician sells, don't you agree?

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 4/30/2004
Thanks Rob.
I agree. That spot is a little lighter than the rest of the feathers and it's obviously cause the reflection of the house makes the lower part of the feathers pretty dark. I like the effect of the reflections also in that spot, though, and I intentionally left the photo untouched cause I wanted it to be a "traight from the camera" shot
Hugs

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 4/30/2004
Caro Paolo
Ciao
Un abbraccio

Chris Spracklen   {K:32552} 5/1/2004

Wow, Emgy! Something new for you...You know...It's Great! I love it. So unusual and artistic work. Excellent!!!
What do you mean - no PS work? Did you do few shots to one frame?
O, I am just read your explanation, ha, what a great idea! Emgy, you are really good...
To my Favorites.
Have a good weekend, my friend.
Lena

Stephen Bowden   {K:64513} 5/1/2004

micky waby   {K:9141} 5/1/2004
Hi Emgy,Amazing image,so well seen and original.
I love the quirky angle of the glasses, adds a bit of humour to the otherwise perfect model.Such great detail.
Thankyou for your kind comments on my images.
Regards Micky.

Jimmy Payne   {K:21163} 5/1/2004
Your photographers' eye turned out a beautiful photograph with this shot. I was wondering why the mannequin's glasses were placed crooked, but your comment cleared that up for me. The person that did the display for the optician knew how to attrack attention to the glasses from people walking by. Well seen and well photographed, Emgy.

John Hatziemmanouil   {K:40580} 5/2/2004
Hallo Emgy.

Jorge Vasconcelos   {K:33746} 5/2/2004
My first observation, this picture deserves much more than an average of 5.8. That?s why I gave up rating, this is not fair with your picture.
Since I rate it with a 7 ,I love your picture. My sugestion is, she looks like to have very nice eyes. This is my bet, but sun glaces do not let me see her eyes.If I?m right, a pair of stunning eyes is better than glaces. They made a certain "type",I understand your purpose, but I am a women eyes?s fanatic...
Regards and thanks for your comments,
jorge

Alex Teller   {K:8286} 5/3/2004
Indubitably a fantastic picture, especially as an artistic composition with magnificent colors. Just one question: why are the glasses crooked?
Nevertheless, it is an absolute beauty.

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 5/3/2004
Hi Jamie
That's a long time ago!!!
I don't know what you mean. Bloody time for what?
Hugs - Emgy

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 5/3/2004
Hi Alex,
Thank you. I have no idea why the glasses are crooked. I took this shot of a shop window and all the mannequins there were wearing crooked glasses. I guess it was just to draw the attention, maybe make passers-by curious. I din't feel like going inside and ask. BTW it is an optician's shop window.
Hugs

Patty Morena   {K:16598} 5/3/2004
Fascinosissima!

Max

Ana Vianna   {K:15270} 5/6/2004
Wonderful creative composition, Emgy! I loved this very original image!

Yes, I was far beacause I'm working some photos of a slum: it's very hard to do and show the sad beauty there is there, but very important to me to show that reality!
Thanks, my dear, for your friendship!
kiss

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 5/6/2004
Dear Anna,
thank you.
I'll be looking forward to seeing your shots of the slum you are working on.I can imagine that it isn't easy an easy thing to do but, knowing you, I'm quite certain that you'll do a great job. There is so much beauty also, and particularly, in the poor areas and you'll know for sure how to capture it. I think that they're going to be very expressive photos with great emotional impact. That's the kind of work I love to see
Hugs - Emgy

Sei bravissima!
..in risposta.
Ciao Emgy.

Criar coisas do nada,do vazio total.

Hi Emgy, I find this photo very intriguing. In more than one aspect, too.

First, there is the unmistakable 80's look, the glamour and the glitter which I noticed first.

Then there are the skewed sunglasses, which create a very weird, unexpected realisation, that it is a mannequin and not a snobbish person I'm looking at.

The framing of the photo using the reflection of the glass, not following the horizontals and verticals, but also askew, fits perfectly with the perceived age of the photo.

And then there are the blue roses.... That really makes me wonder. A double exposure? A Photoshop blend (nope, you give that one away)? or even another windowfront prop? Must be it. Completely out of scale, and unexpected. Very ingenious layering and framing.

If I look even closer, I notice the white feathers on the right and the gradient (reflection, I guess) through the face of the mannequin. Some minor flaws, probably, but fitting perfectly within the elaborate deception of the eye. It is those "flaws", also including the askew glasses, that give this image its appeal and create the somewhat uncomforting feel.

With some more extensive postprocessing, this photo could be turned into a great piece of Digigraphy.

Thanks for your comment on my floral. Again, very much appreciated, and, again, alot of your observations do apply to this photo too. The change of subject to something less familiar is always a very good choice to broaden the horizon, but also to explore new areas of photography, that could very well benefit the usual scope of subjects. I'm very curious to learn where this might lead to.

Cheers,

Hugo

(Time for coffee again....;o)

This is incredibly beautiful Emgy, in that it looks like a composite, yet it is not, which makes it all the more amazing. Astonishing blue roses, her hat!! the light, detail and texture. It is a mannequin brought to life. Original and unique capture. btw is that you caught in the reflection on the right?

Thanks for comment Christina. You're so kind!
I don't understand what you asked me. I don't see any reflection on the right....
