Andrew Lahanas   {K:7044} 5/6/2004
Mark, this shot really stands out because of the patterns the leaves create, almost abstract when looking at the small image. The anthers are super sharp on both flowers which is difficult to achieve with such shallow DOF at this aperture and close focussing distance, so well done. The sepia also forces you to appreciate all the patterns instead of having colours there to distract you from all these shapes so evident in this picture. I also like the dark burning in effect on the corners. Well done for a great image all round.

Thank you all for looking. Thanks, Stephen.

Peter    {K:4365} 5/25/2004
Thank you for your kind comment. I would just like to say how impressive I find this image. I've been recently doing more work with flowers in B&W, and have been frustrated in my attempts to photograph a 'bunch' of flowers in an effective composition - something you HAVE managed to do here. Regards

Phil McLean   {K:11523} 5/31/2004

excellent ! kudos on SC !!

Katiuska Santos   {K:1031} 2/13/2005
Otra notable composicion. Me agrada la eleccion de la tonalidad sepia pues eliminando el color solo se destaca la forma y la pureza de la imagen. Mis felicitaciones.

Trate de apuntarte como Friend pero el sistema me arrojo el siguiente texto:

Error adding friend.
Non-donors are limited to three friends, and you have already added three friends.

Saludos y nos vemos en la siguiente fotografia...

I do understand that they limit you to only 3, but not to worry, I will have you in my list of friends. I'm so glad you like my photographs. I look forward to seeing your work as they are created. Cheers,

Mark

Andre Denis   {K:55940} 1/2/2006
Congrats on your Staff Choice for this one Mark. I think Sepia and B&W florals all look great. You never know how they are going to be viewed though. Some get passed right by with only a few view and others become a big hit.
This one is very deserving of the award and views!
Andre

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 1/2/2006
I was very surprised when it got the SC. There are so many deserving photographers here in UF who have yet to be awarded.

Andre Denis   {K:55940} 1/2/2006
Mark,
There are so many really good photos that go up every day here. It's imposible to give everyone awards. I can only remember one instance where someone got an award for one of their photos that was not really one of their best. Generally I think the staff does a good job of distributing them. There are as you say, many people here who are fantastic photographers. But, some of them don't put in any effort to promote their images at all. I know promoting is frowned on and this might be valiant on their part, but what happens in this case is their images get about 25 views and a couple of comments and quickly get lost in the fast moving wave of new images. This is everyone's loss.
Andre

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 1/2/2006
Andre, that's why I think everyone should come in with the mindset that it's not for awards, but to share. If the staff awards you, that to me is a big deal, and I'm very thankful for the recognition. I was thinking of the possibility of creating an award button that anybody can press to give a photographer an award. In a way, that exists already, in the form of "add to favorites."

Mark

Andre Denis   {K:55940} 1/3/2006
Hi Mark,
I think one of the things that the Usefilm administrators have to watch out for is that the awards don't get served like a popularity contest. If they are not awarded by some kind of separate panel, it might only naturally come down to how many friends you have here and how much time you have to spend on the site.
Andre

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 1/3/2006
That is true. Impartiality, a list of aesthetic criteria, a little bit of subjectivity, and visual appeal should be it.

an cat dubh   {K:2541} 2/8/2006
beautiful tones.. poetic!

Marcia .   {K:16108} 6/2/2006
This is so wonderful, my friend!!! :-)
