Hi Hugo! Amazing structure and craftsmanship!
I like it all except the cables hanging down from the top ~ I think I'd have cloned them out as they're a little distracting.

Hi Hugo,
Wonderful shot! Excellent composition. The colors are amazing. I know the difficulty with cables,(as mentioned by Chris) alot of my shots taken in Iran have/had cables hanging around, but then again i guess they are sometimes part of the image.

This one is an excellent idea that takes us a way from the obvious monuments or museum,life shot,vertical tree beside wonderful decorative "Mosque",life element humen and water,pity those beautiful places left with ugly wires and cables around them,great image,Saeed

Well Hugo, I'm back after a little layoff. This gives a lot of detail, making it an excellent travel shot. I like you inclusion of a figure in the foreground. What are those wires draping down from the spire? Maybe leading to ground from a lightning arrestor?

hugo, i don't know about this one. seems a bit centered ;^) i assume the wires coming down from the cupola are connected to loadspeakers used to broadcast prayers, no? i think changing your position to the right and including one of the corners of the building would definitely help. this would show at least one loudspeaker and give the viewer an idea as to what the wires are for.

I don't know what to say. Is beautiful, the colors and composition. I like very much the man on the photo. He seams like looking up and I like it. Too bad about the cables, I know you couldn't do anything abput them, I have had the same problem too.

Hi Tom, I know... It's centered...;o) And yes, I think you are right, the wires run to the minarets to broadcast the imams call for prayers. I decided to leave them in (and not to clone them out), as they do represent the actual settings.
As to my position, I did try to take this shot from a position a bit more to my right, but then I would run into a problem with the pond, which would either be distracting or reintroduce the centered aspect. Attached is a wider overview (different shot from the same location. I choose this one, as I think the diagonals are a bit stronger in this one, whereas the attached one is a bit unbalanced, I think. A small difference, though. Taken with a 28 mm lens, the distortion by the third vanishing point is still visible (I did correct that in the shot I posted, but the colours are genuine) Wonder what you think; is the attached photo better?

Hi Carlheinz, That's much better... It's what I did with the original one, too. It struck me as odd that the third vanishing point was already as heavy as this with a 28mm.... Can't wait to see the results of my new 17mm....;o)
Know the book "the Photoshop book for digital photographers" by Kelby? An excellent manual, possibly also very useful for your gig shots.... A bible, so to say...;o)
Don't know if you read my reply to Tom, but it also addresses your first comment; the colours are genuine... Did use a PL filter, though.

Hey Hugo! Yes I own the book and it's great. I should read more of it ;-) but I'm more the trial and error kind of guy. It's hard to see a difference but I've also copied and multiplied the background layer but just used 10% opacity. I think it would be great to "fix" the overexposed foreground. Yes and I forgot to mention that I like both but tend to the second one. Has IMHO a better atmosphere. Cheers! Carlheinz

Hi Carlheinz, Same here.... I keep it besides my computer, but need to catch up on my reading. I also use the multiply layer option (on occasion), very nifty feature. I did tweak the levels in the original one a bit, and burned the foreground. It's not so much an overexposed image, but more of a bad scan.
As to the atmosphere, I shifted back and forth between this one and the original one. Today, I'm with the second one again, although I still think this one is a bit more "common" or "standard"
I just wrote a lengthy comment on your first Holga shot, with two URLs in it, but I don't think it posted properly.... Hope it still does, but let me know if it doesn't, and I'll try to retype it.

Hi Hugo! I was just missing some details in the "overexposed area". To multiply layers AND use the eraser; that's the killer. Try this with "old" dark room technics! LOL
And man, get a scanner!!! ;-)

Hugo,I cannot understand why a couple people are being so impolite to you. The composition and light are perfect,so what's the point? Why such a low rating?
Is it a crime to represent the reality the way it is without flashy effects?
What if the cables are there? They have a purpose!
In my opinion it's a very good reportage/travel photo and thanking you for sharing, I give you 7 and not because I'm trying to flatter you,but because a photographer like you,who has delivered true pieces of art, can afford also to post simpler photos which show real places and real atmospheres.
Please ignore the rudeness,you are GREAT and do not have to prove anything to anyone!

hugo, i don't know that you can say one is "better" than the other as they are completely different. i like that you left the wires in the photo. i would like to see where they go and resolve some of the tension. if you can't see the purpose of the wires they become an obstruction.
this attachment is not to show how i would've cropped it but more to show what i would've included. to include these i would've shot it from a sitting position on the far end of the pond looking up. yes, that would've increased the distortion but hey, i really like distortion. ;^) what do you think?
in summary, my preference lies somewhere between your two shots.

UUPPPSSS! Now I need to defend myself. I didn't remove the power lines; they kind of got lost. I think the desicion to remove them, depends on the additional information you give to a picture. Hugo usually adds a "story" to his pictures. If you want to have a postcard like picture I would remove them. If you mention them as part of the story everything changes. Then they make totally sense and are very welcome IMHO.

I'm always very impressed at the beauty of the architecture you reguarly show us through your images. I don't remember having seen this mosque before. If I had, I don't think I would have forgotten it cause it is fascinating. I like this shot a lot particularly for the many interesting details it shows. The colours are vivid and very beautiful. It must have been a gorgeous sunny day. I don't mind the wires (they could be cloned out easily if you wanted) as much as I mind the huge tree on the left covering part of the dome's roundings. However I can imagine that you would have taken this shot from another angle if possible. Finally....I see that there is a bicycle in the shade of the tree on the left. Is it yours, Hugo? I wouldn't be surprised as I do not expect people there to have or use a bike as means of transportation. On the other hand, the presence of a second bicycle under one of the trees on the right, makes me doubt about it. Oh well.....I should stop being so curious!
