About A couple of days ago my 14 years old daughter went to school "prom" or what it's called. Her hair was fixed curly and she had flower in it and looked really cute. I soooooo wanted to take a photo but she was in such rush and said she doesn't even have one minute for photos. So I took a very very quick photo, without flash of course, and it just turned out so blurry and really bad quality. (I attach it here under so you can see).

Anyway, even if quality was so bad I really liked this expression and thought that maybe I can play around with it in photoshop and form it into artwork.

And I guess my question is... Does it work? I think it got a bit of "Mona Lisa" look.

The blurry original here:

Richard Thornton   {K:26442} 5/8/2004
Yes, it has a fine painterly quality that glows. I know what you mean about the children never having time for a photo session. It was easier when they were little and had no choice!

Antonio Trincone   {K:23167} 5/8/2004
the red spots on the upper part if cropped away it will results a better portrait, with nice effects too and good expression Kristina

Gertrud Gozner   {K:14222} 5/8/2004

Subhash Sen   {K:11460} 5/8/2004

Wow, very artistic..
Now I know the secret of Monalisa's look, she was going to a prom :))
Great job.

Jose Ignacio (Nacho) Garcia Barcia   {K:94480} 5/8/2004
magnificent.7

Chris Spracklen   {K:32552} 5/8/2004
Beautiful girl, Kris ~ her mother's looks??
I think you did well with this. It's not easy to disguise such a blur, but this treatment turns it into more of soft focus. A little dark, perhaps, but otherwise very nice indeed. :>))
Kind regards, Chris

Tony Quinlan   {K:2082} 5/8/2004
Nearly as lovely as her mum.
:-)

Ozjan Yeshar   {K:18661} 5/8/2004
The portrait effects is wonderful and you have managed to work that shadow of a smile real well in this image. Cheers Kristina.

Lucas Macedo   {K:12843} 5/8/2004
You turned an otherwise spoiled photo in a work of art, Kriss! A deep and expressive composition, portraying a beaultiful young lady.
I really like your rendering work, the high contrast and grain are just perfect.
Congrats and best regards! ..... Lucas

Emgy Massidda   {K:60226} 5/8/2004
The elaboration on the original has turned out superb. I like the paint effect. What was an unsharp image has now turned into a beautiful artwork that has indeed a bit of the "Mona Lisa" look. I like it a lot and I would have liked it even more if the background had been less busy.
Superbely done, Kristina and... your daughter is a very attractive young girl.
Regards - Emgy

Khoi Nguyen   {K:8700} 5/8/2004
Wow, what an impressive transformation you did. It looks very much like painting. I really like the toning and the effects, which makes it get small piece of Lisa look indeed. Great work Kristina!

Eric TO   {K:1706} 5/8/2004
I think it is the job well done. As one of the comments said, you was able to transform a "non-viewable" photo to a likeable picture. Congratulation. --Eric

Florin Pavel   {K:5296} 5/8/2004
You did a great work. First of all, you had very good basis to start: good framing, great expression. The manipulation in PS produced a masterpiece. Many congrats!

NN     {K:26787} 5/8/2004
Oh Kristina, how beautiful!!! Much more beautiful than the original ML (I mean the painting)! Especially the hair is so lovely! The smile ... hmmm ... might require som additional work. ;-) Anyway, a great idea and a LOVELY picture!!!

Robert Currie   {K:3241} 5/8/2004
This is an excellent "save" of a photo you might have deleted, actually your daughter is prettier than Mona! The spots in the background could be painted out or left in to give a worn look to the painting. Nice job.

Saeed Al Shamsi   {K:47727} 5/8/2004
Excellent "painting,I like the result,superb work,Saeed

Patty Morena   {K:16598} 5/9/2004
Kristina, i can only say,its EXCELLENT!
Great pose and picture:it's very well centered and the details are perfect.
Best regards from Italy.

Kristina Kohut   {K:49990} 5/9/2004
Oh how sweet you are, Elena! Thankyou! :-))

I used very soft airbrush in photoshop, then I added a lot of grain and changed levels and colours a bit. I was playing around with different layers and "melted" parts of them together. *Phew* It's really difficult to explain... haha. But hope you understand the base of my explanation.

. .   {K:1787} 5/9/2004
what a pity you can't do some shots !! Was really nice! the original is very blurred so It's difficult sharpen it with PS... bye

John Hatziemmanouil   {K:40580} 5/9/2004

Kristina.You are great A R T I S T. Regards

Graham Mulrooney   {K:16868} 5/10/2004
Excellent job Kriss and it really works well. Somehow you've managed to give your very pretty daughter a maturity that wasn't in the original.
The only thing is that red at the top of the picture I find distracting. Otherwise a perfect image which I think you should frame and hang on the wall. One for my favourites.
Regards,
Graham.

donato r.   {K:16361} 5/10/2004

Uwe Bachmann   {K:10222} 5/11/2004
of course it work.....wow, should i get jealous of your way to create photos in that way? i think deep respect is a better choice...

very well done and a really pretty daughter that you have...

cheers, uwe

Massimo Di Maggio   {K:-55873} 5/11/2004
Oh Kriss, I like the way you reworked it, you turned a beautiful girl into a splendid woman! I love her eyes and her Spanish look, also the grain works well here in my opinion, instead the flower on her head and those red stains in the background are a bit disturbing, sincerely they are too much digital ;) Anyway you made the right thing to work on this image because it?s a beautiful composition, only remember to use the tripod next time!!! ;)) Kisses, Max

B:)liana    {K:30945} 5/11/2004
Wonderful dear Kristina. Love ittttttt!

Kris this turned out great. nice work. It is always so fun to creatively rescue images that didn't turn out as planed. It is fun to experiment.

Good...I like it. Very creative portrait.
regards, simo

George Marks   {K:14712} 5/21/2004
Your PS work has really enhanced an ordinary, dull image. The results are enchanting. When you took the original image, did you adjust the white balance? This would also look great in B&W. I hope your daughter can appreciate what a talented and loving mother she has.

Maja Gligoric   {K:13441} 5/24/2004
Hahah..Really have Mona Lisa look.Good effects.
Great portrait Kristina!

Terry McCully   {K:9221} 5/27/2004

Hi Mona Lisa's Mom,
Congratulation, you've managed to make a peace of art out of a blurry picture, very well done, regards,

sergo ofir   {K:804} 8/27/2004
Excellent result love the ps work sometimes a image that came out blurr can be fixed by ps end you proved it.
bye sergo

Mark Susa   {K:2301} 11/23/2004
Leonardo will get jealous, Kriss. You did a very fine job and created a wonderful masterpiece. It's rather unfair, he would think, that you have a computer and Photoshop, and he had labored so hard to create the Mona Lisa with a handful of oil paints and a cheap brush. Haha. Like him, you're a genius.

Harry Jasper   {K:2913} 1/16/2005
Although the original photo is blurred you have turned it into a real nice piece of work

I have played a bit with the blurred one to show that a un sharp photo can made better. It depends of course how bad the original is . I have used only the ?un sharp?, ?blurred? and burn tool.

Harry
