Keith, this is taken using my Fuji S2 Pro at prime focus (i.e. attached to the end of) my APM/TMB 130mm apo refractor astronomical telescope.
The shot consists of 10x1 minute exposures + 1x2minutes. These images are then aligned and averaged using a wonderful astrophotography program called Images Plus. For this image I aligned the images so that a chosen star appeared in the same place in each image. This is what I normally do when creating deepsky images. The second version I posted I aligned on the comet's core. Because the comet moves relative to the stars this image has a somewhat elongated comet but beautiful stars, the second image has a beautiful comet but star trails! You can't win 'em all. Guido, thanks for the comment. Yes, I'm fortunate to have some very good astronomy equipment: an TMB 130mm f/7 Superapochromatic Refractor on a Losmandy GM8 motor driven mount. This comet is still in the sky, currently in Ursa Major, but it's faded dramatically and would require a powerful telescope to see properly.
