There is a certain tension that makes this captivating. The story is not clear, so our mind tries to resolve it. "F" is the main protagonist, with perplexity in his eyes, and the soon to be lit cigarette. The moment is withheld, suspended.
"M" is also part of the story but his role is not clear. It would be so much different if he would be looking at "F".

Good composition and story. Photograph is technically perfect, imo.

r,

Steve

Cool image, it is like a tense still from a movie, good Black and White tones too from a colour neg, sometimes I have some problems here when I have done this, good work

Matej Maceas   {K:24381} 5/26/2004
Thanks Philip, yes I had luck with the tones, this was the first time I tried enlarging a colour neg and I was afraid contrast would be a problem (it was in fact slightly lower than what I get with BW negs) but in the end I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

Great shot Matej... See? You got your own Icon "EC" too :-)

Cheers

Pat

Viktor Pravdica   {K:6647} 6/6/2004
Strong! Congrats on EC

zosia zija   {K:12056} 6/6/2004
nice work!

Hi Matej, Christian has put it very eloquently already. I agree; the atmosphere without "M" (you, by any chance?) is essential to the expression and atmosphere. It's a vital coexistence without apparent interaction, to phrase it differently. No explanation needed, the story tells / sells itself, the specifics up to the viewer to decide.

Cheers,

Hugo

It's not me, I was behind the camera :-)

Professional work. In fact, I have seen professional work that was not this good.
I could write an entire short story from this one photograph.
Your eye is superb.

good shot.
I've just visited your website
- fine photos in 'people' category.

Stefan Rohner   {K:4200} 7/10/2004
very good!

Nigel Simmons   {K:405} 7/23/2004
So good. It looks like a scene from a movie. It looks planned out. Awesome work.

Ian McIntosh   {K:38819} 8/11/2004
Vey nice to find your work. Must keep a closer eye on it as I've been forced by theft to move away from the abstraction of digitals and find your work has nice compositional ideas. This is, as the previous critiques said, well timed.

Rodrigo Hernández Salgado   {K:-232} 8/14/2004
More than a father and son shot, it makes feel as if the boy were the thoughts of this aged man remembering his own youth, the resemblance between the two is outstanding.

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 9/7/2004
Good comments on this one. It does look staged, but I am assuming it is not. Interesting.

Matej Maceas   {K:24381} 9/8/2004
It's not staged. If it were, the wall lamp growing out of my friend's head would be inexcusable. Now it's just vaguely annoying ;-)

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 9/8/2004
I am sure you just edited that in to create the illusion that this wasn't posed :-)

Carina Berlingeri   {K:317} 11/16/2004
cool shot..!

Aaron Miller   {K:801} 2/27/2005
