Hi Paul, very good shot. I like the title, and I'm glad you didn't go for a perfect alignment....;o) Very creative, and very well exposed. I've been "shooting at the moon" recently too, and foud it very difficult to get it done properly. By how many shots did you overexpose? My D100 needs at least a -4EV setting to capture the details. Anything less overexposes it. In this shot, with the alignment of the street lamps, it puzzles me, as I presume the lights were much brighter... Intriguing shot, and well composed!

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo, the moon is a sunlit object, hence follows the "sunny 16" rule. Should there still be 125 ASA films, it would be correctly exposed at 1/125 s, f/16 (correction is required with 100 ASA, of course.) Obviously that underexposes all the rest, at least after sunset, and provided you don't use auxiliary lighting.

Thanks for the info! That's what I needed, It falls into perspective perfectly> I appreciate your help!

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo, I read on several occasions that the correct exposure for the moon is 1/ISO at f/11.

This is so simple yet very cool. To me it looks like the lamp post are flying saucers. Keep up the good work.

Paul Lara   {K:87215} 6/4/2004
Thank you, Antonella!
I'm growing fond of it myself. ;)

Kristina Kohut   {K:49990} 6/4/2004
Wow this is so beautiful! How fantastic light and so perfect details! I can really see the famous "man in the moon" so clearly!

The other things, are they UFO's or street lights or what are they? I love the bottom two, but the one on top feels distracting.

Paul Lara   {K:87215} 6/4/2004
All three are lights in the parking lot.
So, do you think it makes a better composition without the top light? I kept it in, in order to have a 3-point line that is broken or ascended by the moon's angle.

Kristina Kohut   {K:49990} 6/4/2004
Such hard questions you come up with! :-))

The composition is great, but when I look I feel that my eyes are dragged towards that top light all the time. But I think it's more because light is so much stronger than light in moon.

Paul Lara   {K:87215} 6/4/2004
I'll burn it in a little, and see how that looks.
Thanks for the feedback, Kristina.
