About Taken from the top of the empire state building. You can see the Chrysler bldg to the left.

Just liked the way the bird was looking at me :) It seemed he would not get out of my view of the city until I took his photo LOL

No PS except for a little cropping on the sides. Many have mentioned that it is too bad that his feet are cut off in the image... not much choice in that because part of a fence was blocking his feet.

Chris Hunter   {K:25631} 6/13/2004
Good pic, it is an interesting angle that he is making his held tilt at,

Chris

Marton Hegedus   {K:125} 6/13/2004
You could have been very interesting to that pigeon... :)))

Tony Diana   {K:13396} 6/13/2004

Nice and kind shot!!!! Regards.

Paul's Photos   {K:34954} 6/13/2004
Arend, pretty sure that the tall black building is Trump Towers.. thanks for the comment!

Carmem A. Busko   {K:48763} 6/13/2004
I?ve tried something like this at Empire?s.. but this "look" is really unusual..
It would be better if you didn?t cut out the feet.. but...I?m still laughing at it.. great decisive moment..
Cheers!
Carmem

Paul's Photos   {K:34954} 6/13/2004
thanks for the comment.. could not help cutting out the feet due to the fence, agree that it would have been nice to include them..

Amna Al Shamsi   {K:21135} 6/13/2004
hehe nice capture ;-) I think this bird wanted to say Happy birthday in a special way...well done!

Tim  Schumm   {K:27167} 6/13/2004
Good capture and story to boot! really get the feeling of being upthere still dispite the cropping. excellent!

Sam Andre   {K:12556} 6/13/2004
groots... heel mooi moment om een camera in je handen te hebben

Lori Stitt   {K:74437} 6/13/2004
Well, you accomplished it! Made me laugh! LOL
This is SO CUTE!!! I LOVE IT. I would have taken this photo also!
Great capture, Paul!
Lori :)

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 6/13/2004
great artistic job from the pidgeon ;-) the DOF is a bit hard - I think it would make the image more interesting if one can see the crysler building. cheers, thilo.

Ian White   {K:1291} 6/13/2004
Excellent capture. The number of times i've been up the Empire State and I'v not caught a friendly pigeon like this one!

Beautiful crisp. clear shot, unusual (head) angle. Keep up the good work.

Gabriella Carta   {K:22865} 6/13/2004
ahahhahahahhah wonderful!!! great shot, good

Paul's Photos   {K:34954} 6/14/2004
Thilo, thanks for the comment...could not do much about the DOF, did not have much of chance to change the settings and still capture the image. I think either a min or max DOF would work, would just convey a different feeling.

michelle k.   {K:16270} 6/14/2004
i don't agree with thilo on this. it is not a cityscape, an would have no reason to 'make it more interesting' to have anything other than the (hilarious!) main subject in plain view. great catch!!

Riny  Koopman   {K:19998} 6/14/2004
paul,excellent work
tanks for all yours comments to me

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184981} 6/15/2004
Lol! Inquisitive little bugger! Good shot, not much time to compose... Guess that's why the feet are cut off... Excellent moment and well exposed.

Cheers,

Hugo

Ellen Havrilla   {K:8618} 6/15/2004
Great shot! The pigeon is looking very funny!
Regards
Ellen

Paul's Photos   {K:34954} 6/15/2004
Hugo, thanks for the comments.. yes not much time to compose. As I replied to Carmem, the feet were cut off because there was a part of a fence (to stop people from jumping off haha) that blocked my view of his feet... also, I wanted to get all of the chrylser building in the image...even though it was out of focus. thanks again...

Roberta Bagnacani   {K:25} 6/15/2004
Fantastic and very funny shot! :)

Bill Hogan   {K:192} 6/15/2004

P. Christine Skinner   {K:27338} 6/16/2004
Wonderful adorable capture, the tilt is quintessential pigeon and his colours are magnificent. My Dad used to fly pigeons well not fly them, you know what I mean.

Anouschka Rokebrand   {K:6470} 6/16/2004
This is a great shot! Very good composition and excellent use of dof. Lovely lighting aswell.

Sara M   {K:12282} 6/17/2004
Very cute and very rare to see birds posing like that.. :)

Matthew Knafel   {K:923} 6/17/2004
I definitely think that this photo would be a better photo than the city. You don't get the opportunity to take photos like that often. It's almost like the bird was posing for the camera. It's one of those photos that you don't plan to take, but turns out to be one of the best.

Andy Simmons   {K:7704} 6/17/2004
Too bad you lost his feet, otherwise this is wonderful. The tilt of his head is very amusing. This bird certainly has a New York attitude.

Paul's Photos   {K:34954} 6/17/2004
Matthew, would have to agree with you..and to prove your point, I did take photos of the city and you don't see me loading any of them on Usefilm :) thanks for the comments

Jose Ignacio (Nacho) Garcia Barcia   {K:92149} 6/18/2004

I remember this photo from a while back, it is just brilliant! The pidgeon has sooo mucch character..... Well done nice capture!

Jimmy Payne   {K:21163} 8/7/2004
Don't you just love it when you can catch them doing something like this? I posted a photo of a white swan doing something like this a few weeks back. I really like the sharp focus on the pigeon with the city skyline thrown out of focus.

Jimmy

Bill Krul   {K:5787} 8/7/2004

Haha it's SUPER! Okay, I agree that full legs could have been better but if you didn't have any choice there's no point thinking of it. It's really so funny and different and very eye catching!

Stephen Bowden   {K:64519} 11/17/2004
Paul this is a shot in a million, glad I came back to browse your portfolio.

Adilson Rodrigues   {K:1178} 11/26/2004
Paul,
Congratulation for your portfolio... I could see you can work with different ideas and, in special, with light in the night.
But, I confess, this one it is very intereting image because this kind of situation you didn't have time to prepare yourself but you got it!!!
Regards

Adriane Chernus   {K:880} 4/10/2005
Like this very much. Sometimes I wonder why people comment on stuff like "cutting off feet" because if you go past the moment waiting for the perfect shot you don't get expressions like this. Bravo....

naftali raz   {K:1723} 4/29/2005
nice catch of an interesting character! you are a quick draw!
IMHO, the shallow dof works very well - gives a hint of the city but allows you to focus on the subject. but - arrrgh- the cut feet do bother me, though i still like the image. may be it would look better with the offending fence? obscured feet is different from cut feet that have nowhere to go.

Paul's Photos   {K:34954} 4/29/2005
Thanks Naftali... yes, it would be nice to have the feet included. And the fence you are talking about, well I cropped that off in the camera when I took the image. I guess that is one drawback of composing/editing a scene in the camera instead of later on in the computer.

Vasile Florin   {K:2997} 7/8/2005
Excellent capture!
Beautiful look!
