About This picture was made during a night shot session with Calle & Chrissie near Times Square. I worked some time on the original color image and made some changes to format, detail and colors (obviously). If you wish I may upload the original one ;-)

Comments are appreciated a lot.

Kristina Kohut   {K:49990} 6/13/2004
Thilo, this is super! Fantastic composition and so strong feeling of city, fashion and movements! Great with this blue toning! Looks like a professional poster!

Gayle's Eclectic Photos   {K:91033} 6/13/2004
hi,Thilo - love this image!..good choice for toning as gives it the look of a movie promo poster..capturing the smoke and car movement really adds much interest to this shot..yes,show the original...regards,gayle (thanks for well wishes for my future)

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 6/13/2004
thanks for the comment, kev. Actually this was my first digital camera from 2002. Enclosed you will find the original shot. quite a bit different ;-)

Stay tuned for your comments. Cheers, Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 6/13/2004
Dear Gayle & Kristina, I tried a lot with this picture and finally got the idea to change the toning to blue. I think this fits well with the mood of the scene. The advertisings showed up with more contrast when converting to grey scale and back to RGB.

Credits go out to Pedro who gave me the appropriate hints how to do this. Thanks mate!

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/13/2004
Hi Thilo, Awesome shot. Definately one for my favourites (again) The atmosphere is superb. IMO, that's mainly due to the following elements:

The moving cab in front, the cool blue tone, the billboards and, of course, the smoke. Thut the graphic composition is also aided by the text on the fascades, and the angle of the lens, which seems to be approximately the same angle as the human eye, which makes the image look very natural. Great shot.

My attention is attracted to the transition of the smoke colour and transparency over the Mama Mia poster. Very subtle detail, as it manages to keep the viewers attentio perfectly.

Outstanding shot!

Cheers,

Hugo

Congratulations Thilo!! You are de man! This is a tremendous shot, with SO much going on..so much to absorb. The different aspects within this shot are so well placed that it almost looks like you instructed the placement of everything. Great mood, and wonderful drama! congrats..Brad

Gayle's Eclectic Photos   {K:91033} 6/14/2004

Uwe Bachmann   {K:10222} 6/14/2004

vg, uwe

Paolo De Maio   {K:34166} 6/14/2004
SUPER SHOT!!!
My best compliments
for BIP!!

It would be nice if you wouldn't load the original version Thilo and to leave it so.
in my fav just now!

Paolo

Ahmet Baki Kocaballi   {K:13627} 6/14/2004
Hi Thilo,
a really great capture. Moving cabs, strong background and effect of smoke constitute a great atmosphere and composition,I also liked the b&w conversion.
Regards
Baki

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 6/14/2004
Dear Hugo,

thanks for the in-depth comment. You mentioned a lot of things that attracted you. THAT was one of the main problems for me with that picture. I thought that it actually has too many details to watch. I'm glad that you and the other guys liked it anyway. cheers, thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 6/14/2004
Hi Uwe,

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 6/14/2004
Dear Paolo,

thanks for the kind comments. As for the original picture: Hard to determine what's better. I know that some of the photographers here don't want to upload the original picture, just the final results counts. I am one of those guys who like to show the original material if someone asks for it =)

cheers, thilo

Paolo De Maio   {K:34166} 6/14/2004
Dear Thilo,
only now lokking to the UF friends comment I discovered the original shot...
In brief: what you did is simpy special!!!
I only appreciate both version becasue as in color as in B/W are simply amazing
At last I agree completely with you (to show all the entire process to share our skills in photography each other to grow professionally)
I suggest it (don't upload the original) to mantain pure its magic feel...but it was an opinion not based on real facts.
You dimostrated the contrary and I appreciated it!!
My best compliments
Thilo and sorry for my bad typed english.
I'm trying to improve it (too) by using this wonderful site!
All the Best
Paolo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 6/14/2004
Dear Paolo,

It makes me happy that you like the rework ;-) And your English is not that bad: I understand everything you said.

thx for your comment! cheers, thilo

Paul's Photos   {K:34954} 6/15/2004
excellent capture Thilo.. love the lighting and the mood. Did you use a tripod? the image is pretty crisp but there is a little bit of blur....which actually adds to the mood... nice work

Kevin Collier   {K:19076} 6/15/2004
Congrats on the POD and BIP -- great work > K

Maria José Barres   {K:11276} 6/15/2004

Ursula Luschnig   {K:21869} 6/15/2004

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 6/15/2004
Dear Paul,

No tripod in this scene. Times Square is heavy lighted even in the very night so that one can shoot without any tripod ;-)

Thx for your comment, Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 6/15/2004
Hi Ursula,

Ken Tinley   {K:1856} 6/15/2004
