this is an outstanding photo (from my point of view) for several reasons.
1) the shot is very crisp, which helps hilight the decay of the building.
2) You shot from the base of the building, emphasizing the monolithic stature of the architecture.
3) the lines of the building draw your eye up towards the heavens, which is exactily what the viewer is thinking of becuse...
4) the cross. The picture just would not be as powerful without the cross. Incidentally, it is also nicely off-center, which follows the Rule of Thirds.
