About This is the first of two images of a famous landmark at Bosham, West Sussex, England. This old wooden boat has been quietly rotting on the edge of the natural harbour for many years. The village is very interesting with a long and active history - it's where King Canute tried to turn back the tide AND it's King Harold's home village! - and one of the most beautiful and unmolested waterfronts in England.

Barry,

I prefer this version, because to my eye the landscape format suuits the subject better. I like the way the clouds are forming a menacing shape above the boat, and there are even some lines mimicking the mast on the boat.

It would have been nice to have some room to the left of the boat.

Thanks for the info on Bosham.

Very nice composition. Interesting comment regarding Bosham.

A quiet classic, if I may so Barry!
Wonderful greens and blues and, needless to say, superb composition.
Kind regards, Chris

Well done. A perfect picture of rot! The composition is very good, the overall feeling and light of a cloudy day adds to the mood.

Barry,
what a wonderful image, beautiful colours and composition as everyone has said so far.

My only tiny critisism would be the crop, or possibly you camera position. The boat deserves just a little more space around it especially on the left where its very tightly cropped. I'd also like to see that foreground rope exiting the frame nearer the corner if possible.

Having said that - I'd be proud to have the image in my portfoilio.

Keith, thanks for the comments, valid points all. I would have liked to give a bit more clearance on the left of the image and I agree with the rope. The problem was I was teetering about in the sea water with trainers on (always well prepared!) and the camera was set low on the tripod in the sea such that I could hardly see through the viewfinder without getting very wet. Anyway, no excuse for missing the perfect composition but I thought I'd share with you some of the challenges of landscape photography!

Impeccably executed; both artistically and technically.

I like this shot a lot Barry. You've got a great portfolio too. This isn't the boat JFK served on by chance is it? Just joking. Thank you for your comments on my pics too.
