About My dad used to tell me that I need to finish what I start. So 16819170 minutes from now, maybe my son will also remember the things I will teach my kid...

I'd only wish I'd paid more attention when I was much younger...:o)

Comments are, as always, appreciated

Cheers,

Hugo

Lori Stitt   {K:74437} 6/28/2004
Good advice, I have told all my children the very same thing...it wasn't always what they wanted to hear but knew I meant what I said... I've been thanked for it by them (not all, but a couple)
We always wish we'd paid more attention when we should have, but yet, we haven't 'arrived' yet either!

Nice powerful image, I like the ECU...

Lori :)

Kamran Bakhtiari   {K:15913} 6/28/2004

Groeten,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/28/2004
Ha Eric, Not too tired, though. Just like his father, Willem sleeps like a rose... He only wakes us up once a night, at 0600-ish... (hence my early reply and comments...)

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/28/2004
Never too old to learn, Lori! By the way, what do you mean by "ECU"? Thanks for your comment,

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/28/2004
LOL! It's not as troublesome as it looks, Carlheinz...) But in this triptych, I had the chanche to completely control the model for the intermediate shot....) Easy to work with!

Cheers,

Hugo

Maria Grazia Rapisarda   {K:15688} 6/28/2004

Excellent Hugo, it is one of those photos that makes you stop and think for a moment. I like that very much.

Verena Rentrop   {K:14426} 6/28/2004
Dear Hugo,

you have such a nice smile, can I please see the same close-up a little bit more friendly ;)

Does Willem can sleep if his father looks like that?

It is good to think twice before starting to teach your child, they will never forget, sometimes perhaps they want to forget, but this will start a bit later ;)!

Cheers,
Verena

Excellent portrait.Full marks
jorge

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 6/28/2004
Very good symmetry to the previous one and a bit of humor with the frown. Looking forward to the third photo!

tom rumland   {K:14874} 6/28/2004
hugo, we have already discussed this one (and the next one) before. however, i saw this one posted and it looks a bit different. i think you did it. lowering the shadow level over your left eye definitely toned down the previous feel. changed the look from angry to concerned. very good. it fits the intended "storyline" much better without losing the shading levels.

take care,
tom

jon parsons   {K:13630} 6/28/2004
Dear Hugo, this is most beautiful work my friend! the look in the eyes is incredibly sinister....jon

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/28/2004
Hi Jon, Thanks for your comment. I think I must've done something wrong, as it is a self portrait, and by no means intended as sinister....) Interesting thought, though. It never occured to me that this might be perceived as such...

Cheers,

Hugo

Neil Dolman   {K:26883} 6/28/2004
Hi Hugo (the proud parent),
I had to wait for Jon to comment before i could, because i too thought it to be a little sinister (a la Hitchcock), we don't want to go frightening Willem do we?
But at least i was pleased to see that the rumours are not true.....that you've had your face lifted so often, that the scar on your chin is an old knee injury :) i didn't see any scar so there can't be any truth in that.
Just joking Hugo....
Take care and best wishes to you and yours.
Your friend in the alps, Neil

Walter Scarella   {K:17237} 6/28/2004
A great close-up portrait ! Beautiful light and tones, slpendid shadows, excellent definition.
Congrats
Regards...Walter

Massimo Di Maggio   {K:-56773} 6/28/2004
Don't worry Hugo, the same with my father and I think with every father ;) I feel still a child when I meet and talk with my daddy, even if I'm 55 now!! Great and strong portrait, a bit ironic too, I like the crop, the B/W tones and that killer look ;) Bye Max

c c   {K:13446} 6/29/2004
Brilliant....love the serious face....love your humor....your Babe is one lucky boy and you are truly blessed! This made me smile...

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 6/29/2004
Dear Hugo,

great followup to the last picture: 30 minutes old. Is that the tryptich you mentioned in some of the comments to me? Great idea if so ;-)

Technically, I like the b/w composing, the absence of color lets you play with dramatic shadows and textures. The crop is well done (a tad too strong on the right eye?), I also like the shifted horizon. Strengthens the staring look, so that that the eyes really try to hypnotize the viewer. Great effect.

Well done! Cheers, Thilo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/29/2004
Hi Neil, how polite that you waited for Jon to comment... You could've just banged in there, and take ALL the credit. But wait... It is not Willem that is frightened, but it's YOU who felt intimidated by the "sinister" look in my eyes... Better seek shelter behind Jon, then!

And about that scar, It's there alright, but my head's just too thick to notice...) See how my lower lip sticks out a bit? That's how I tend to cover it up. Don't let anybody in on this secret, pleeeeeasse?

Take care, Neil, I enjoyed your comment....Lo)

Your achrophobic friend,

Cheers,

Hugo

NN     {K:26787} 6/29/2004
Hi Hugo ... great title as in the previous image! You look just alike the younger one ... the only difference is that the eyes have opened here! ;-) You forgot to tell us the centimeters, though! I like that sinister look and do believe that you don?t like flower shots ...

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/29/2004
Hi Elisa, Thanks for your comment. Very funny! I'm not so much an intermezzo, but a 185cm stand in the way....) Don't let the look in my eyes deceive you, though. I'm not that mean that I don't like florals... Some are truely exceptional!

Cheers,

Hugo

Carmem A. Busko   {K:48763} 6/29/2004
Hugo, here we say:
"É a cara do papai" ..something like: "he is (looks) his dad?s face".
Excellent and unusual self portrait!
Thank you for your kind comment on my work.
Cheers!
Carmem

Christian Barrette   {K:21125} 6/29/2004
And you can start counting the wrinkles now !
Excellent angle and the lighting, though hard, is very well controled.

arwa abdullah   {K:34425} 6/30/2004

Kristina Kohut   {K:49990} 7/3/2004
Hi Hugo! Sorry for being "disappeared" for a while, I am quite busy lately. This photo is really GREAT! I love the strong eye contact, and it feels so real like if you are REALLY looking at me from screen! I'm making faces to you now, to see if you expression changes... Hm... no... Maybe you are trained to be like those English... ahhh.... I forgot what they are called now. You know those wardens outside castles, that are not allowed to change a muscle in face expression no matter what happens.

Great Hugo, very good! And you have very nice intelligent eyes!

sunrise    {K:6651} 7/3/2004
Thanks for your opinion...you say do a crop on the left of photo?or.....?
Thanks and have a good week end

Chris Hunter   {K:25631} 7/3/2004
Great, intense crop here, Hugo. Perfectly compliments his expression. The lighting and angle are superb as well.

Chris

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 7/3/2004
Hi Kriss, It worked! It worked! Your face making just made me flinch! There's even a faint hint at a smile, now! Wow! Never thought that would be possible with photos. Spooky! Harry Potter's alive! Apparently, I'm not as cool as those English guards....;o)

Thanks for your comment, It really made me smile!

Cheers,

Hugo

Maria Luisa Vial   {K:36017} 7/4/2004
Hi Hugo... Excellent shot... Love the angle and the cropping... Love the expression... It is really great!!! Great words Hugo... full of wisdom... sometimes we wish to have paid more attention... but we are human being... and we learn from our experiences... and we keep on hoping that the younger generations are better than we are... So let's just hope for a better tomorrow...

Cheers,

Maria

P.S. Give a kiss to your son from me... My best wishes to him...

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 7/4/2004
Thanks, Chris. It's a selfportrait.

Cheers,

Hugo

John Loreaux   {K:85782} 7/4/2004
The next generation, beginning to tell It's own story beginning to reveal its own path through life with countless more stories to tell! Great! My best,JOHN

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 7/6/2004
Hugo, It's you!!!!!
Hiiiii!
Finally we've got to see a face behind the smartest critiques on UF!
Great! LIKE SON LIKE FATHER.... yeah I know, it's the other way around but I've seen your son's photo before this one and I guessed right away that this must be your self-portrait. The similarity is striking. The only difference is that he looks like a very sweet angel, which I?m sure he is. (Right now, though, I can't help smiling as I recall a comment I read on your son's portrait. I think it said " oh, oh! Watch out!.... it's a mini-Hugo!")
Anyway.....I?d like to congratulate you with this lovely and original series of macro images. This is powerful work, Hugo, and?..it?s emotionally very appealing. At first I thought you must have been angry when you shoot this portrait. However, after a better look, and particularly after seeing the uncropped version you added, I cannot but change my mind. There is indeed a faint smile on your face, which is very nice. Good crop and toning.
Very expressive portrait
Emgy

Raamses Ortiz   {K:4408} 7/7/2004
Hi Hugo,

Great portrait. The B/W give it someting special color couldn't. The tones and contrast are great and the composition is super. I love the details they are simply fantastic.

Congrats,

Be seeing you...

Raamses.

P. Christine Skinner   {K:27338} 7/7/2004
Very intense eyes and set to your mouth. Quite dramatic. The angle is inspired.

Enjoy    {K:16125} 7/7/2004
Excellent one too.... enjoy the young child as time does truely pass too quickly for you will turn around and find a young man standing next to you....in the blink of an eye...spoken by the mother of two sons... that I adore and that are great adults now..

Yoshi Enoki Jr   {K:3601} 7/8/2004
Why don't you smile? Heheheheheeheee

so there's a Jr? Hope he's better looking than you! Just kiddin'.......

Cindi Czaja   {K:5314} 7/8/2004
Hugo what an intense shot of you - an interesting series of 3 generations - in terms of time. Why couldn't you break it down to seconds? ;) You know like 1/60th of a second? Nice tones and clarity. Kind Regards, Cindi

Gayle's Eclectic Photos   {K:91033} 7/13/2004
Nice to virtually meet you,Hugo...love the crop and the intense, but bemused expression...great series...just noticed that in this image, you favor a late night talk show comedian host in NYC named David Letterman (eyebrows and eyes)...regards,gayle

Gustavo Eulalio   {K:3774} 7/23/2004
Great expression, Hugo. i like the details on the skin and the eye expression. Cheers.

Regina Rianelli   {K:24147} 8/1/2004

Regina

ana ribeiro   {K:21290} 8/7/2004
the great portrait!!!!!!!!

Ahmed Nadim   {K:437} 9/21/2004
I love the lighting
Amazing shades and shadows .
I only think that it is overcropped

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 9/21/2004
Hi Ahmed, It sure is a close composition, but it's an uncropped image, in line with the two others in this triptych. You have a point, though, it's a bit too closely composed.

Thanks for your honest opinion, much appreciated!

Cheers,

Hugo

Telmo Domingues   {K:9639} 9/23/2004
HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII Hugo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You scared me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!
Excelent approach in selfportrait! Lighting is perfect although the left (right...) part of the nose is a overexposed... But if it wasn't maybe the overall result would be flat... The overexposition seems controled and is clearly an option. The result is great and the "model" play a very important role with his expression. I like this a lot. Missed you man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 9/23/2004
Wheeeee! You're back! hope I didn't scare you away agian....;o) Good tho have you back! Thanks, buddy!

Cheers,

Hugo

Patrick Jacobson   {K:29151} 9/27/2004

You look great! those minutes of your doesn't bother you much I guess...

Pinar Yazicioglu   {K:7607} 10/31/2004
great self portrait!!!

Liane Doxey   {K:197} 11/2/2004
Love the self portrait, both above and below. I've not attempted the self portrait yet, yours are an inspiration. Thank you!

Jim Christensen   {K:18843} 11/19/2004
Hugo
I have been perusing your portfolio and really like your work. I happened on to the image next to this of the child, I then glanced over at this self portriat of you. needless to say i saw a striking resemblance. I had to believe that the subjecys in these two photos are related. Then i read on ! Congrates on the addition even though i am late ! I have 3 sons and a daughter, all grown they have brought me so much joy and pride, and they grow and go so fast.
regards
jimc

James Hager   {K:6285} 12/7/2004
I just love the title! It's also an unusual, yet captivating, composition with nice lighting and detail. Nice work.
