Der Macro-Blick in eine Knospe ist dir sehr gut gelungen,Lori. Sehr schön der Bildaufbau und Farbsättigung. Nicht zu viel und nicht zu wenig ist auf dem Bild. Ein schönes Farbenspiel. Reg. Win.

Hi Lori, the shallow DOF works very well for me in this image, especially if I concider this an abstract instead of a floral...;o) The shallow DOF also creates a good touch of dynamism. Excellent tones and well composed. I like this one alot. The only thing that disturbs me a bit is the edge of the petal on the right. Have you concidered cropping it off?
Cheers,
Hugo

But it's the edge of that petal that is doing the 'protecting'!! That's what inspired the title, Hugo! :) :)

Interesting thought, Lori! I didn't look at it that way, but in hindsight, i should've guessed it. Now knowing your delibrations, it kind of removes the abstract feeling I liked about this image, needless to mention I do have more favourite subjects...;O) I also observe how often I'm mistaken in interpreting your photos....;o)
A personal opinion, I'm still not sure if it adds to the quality of the shot; maybe considering the title is an option...? (only kidding, ofcourse!)
Cheers,
Hugo

I know, Hugo! It's difficult to get inside others' minds isn't it? :)
HOWEVER...even without the title, I still like the petal. (you KNOW I'm going to get in the last word don't you?? LOL)
OK my friend, the ball is in your court!!
LOL...what are friends for but to have fun with? Lori :)

Couldn't let that one pass, Lori! And I'm very well aware that the final word is yours, but I certainly won't give up without a fight....;o) That's what friends are for, too....
The petal in the top right corner, IMO, boxes / shields out the top right corner itself, and creates an (ever so slight) unbalance in the composition. Furthermore, in comparison to the ut most right thingy with the pollen (whatchamacallit?) it is slightly softer due to the shallow DOF, which reduces its importance in this shot. Thirdly, The whatchamacallits attract most of the attention, even more rendering the petal to a secondary subject.
Wow. That was a mouth full... But the famous last words will be definately yours....;o)
Cheers,
Hugo
PS: the longer I look at it, the more I'm beginning to like this one.

Hmmmm...we keep this going much longer and it's going to become your FAVORITE!! (and you WILL resort to photographing flowers with their 'whatchamacallets'!! LOL
B U T.....still, even if the petal appears to be a secondary subject, it's STILL protecting the other 'whatchamacallets'....(in my mind of course)...
And since the 'whatchamacallets' command the attention, the MORE THEY NEED THAT PROTECTION!!! Right?? (are you rolling you eyes yet? LOL)
Just wait....I'm GOING to get you back!
Lori :)
ps...you're right; you don't give up without a fight, but then, neither do I. :)

Hmmmm. How on earth can I respond to this....;o) think I'd better head out and shoot some whatchamacallits, not necessarily with a camera....;o) And while I'm at it, I might as well shoot some other things in the process.
But fair and square, you win.... After all, it's your shot, your desision, and most of all, your idea and creativity.... )
And there's no arguing, it is a nice shot. Luckily there are as many oppinions as there are critics....
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi Lori, just caught this looking through the recent comments :) You and Hugo could write a book together :) It's much better than watching TV watching the back and forth discussion about what....callits (No Hugo, i don't know how to spell it either :)) Anyway to this photo, i like the colours, even like the framing but i think it has suffered a little in the sharpness department. Not easy i know and i guess you were handheld too. Anyway i'm looking forward to seeing some more of your bounty from the San Diego Fair. Best wishes oh and before i forget thanks a million for your kind comment today. Cheers from Switzerland, Neil

Hi Neil, A great help you are! Ok, Ok, choose Lori's side, I'll manage....
And, Lori, I do agree with our swiss / NZ friend about the frame, that is very fitting! On the sharpness department, I'd blame it to the thin air over there in the alps...
Take care,
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi Hugo, now your just picking on me because i posted a flower shot today, and because i can't spell "what.......call it". Nothing to do with the thin air though, could be the beer ;-) Greetings your friend in the thin air (i suppose to a person from Holland, anything above 10 metres above sea level constitutes a "thin air zone" Groeten Neil

Hi Neil, Thanks for your comment, yes it was handheld. And it wasn't totally sharp before I started. (hence the abstract, kind of)
YEs, Hugo and I have fun going back and forth. I'll bet it DOES make interesting reading!! LOL
