About I am 'jazzed'!! I have never seen one of these here, much less photographed one. Went to the zoo today, only had the little Pentax with me, no tripod. My husband sees this guy on a wire fence, and I went wild (with the camera). The Pentax has a macro and 'super macro' setting. I think a tiny bit of fill flash would have been nice for this angle, with the bright sky behind him, but 'super macro' won't fire flash, for obvious reasons. I was about 3 inches from him. Couldn't believe he stayed there. Now I'm wonderfing if I shouldn't have stayed back and used a zoom, WITH a 'tad' bit of flash....too late now!
:) :) :)
Of course you know another one will be arriving soon!

I know this doesn't even begin to compare to some of you with the fantastic optics for your macros, (just wait till next year!)but I'm still smiling!! :)

This must have taken some patience, but the results are excellent!

I'm impressed.
I would be proud to be the owner of this shot.
They never wait for me to take the shot, they tease me..wait until I'm almost ready then fly off..
I do like this allot.
My complements.
Lee

Grrrrreat stuff Lori!! I am so happy for you! It's such a kick when one captures that evasive object (remember my excitement over my silly moff? )

This is not as bad as what you think it is - just look at the honey-spunned wings!

Fabulous.

Linn

Lori Stitt   {K:74437} 7/10/2004
Thanks Linn,
LOL...how could I forget that 'moff'!!!
I told my husband about that story, we both kid about those 'hairy butterflies'!!
You're almost a household word!!

A house-hold name? Fame! Oh well, I survived that embarrassing moment and if my blunder makes people chuckle, then it was well worth it :-))

I think it is great when one gets excited over an image - it shows that the hobby/passion is still alive and burning :-)

Jimmy Payne   {K:21163} 7/12/2004
How lucky can you get! These things fly all around me when I go out to the lake but none land long enough to get a shot. I know you're an expert photographer and I hesitate to say this, but I don't see how any flash would improve this shot. I'm putting this bug in my favorties for inspiration.

Jimmy

Lori Stitt   {K:74437} 7/12/2004
Hey thanks so much Jimmy!!!

I guess I thought his face was a bit too much in shadow...
Am glad you liked this one, I'd never seen one of these guys here before! It was funny, he would fly off then come back to the same spot on the wire, he seemed to be really 'eyeballing' something, and I don't think it was me! :)

N M   {K:1816} 7/17/2004
Nice macro Lori - even without a specialized optic :) I've been chasing insects all round my garden all summer and haven't had any luck so far! I can see why you went wild when you saw this one. Very nice once again.
