About I was set up with tripod and other gear on a small side street in Old Lijiang shooting photos of something else, when I saw this gentleman shuffling slowly down the road. He was buying a steamed bun and as he turned towards me, I was lucky enough to snap a quick shot of him. As with many older people he has an interesting face with a world of experiences, I'm sure. Incidentally, his beard is what attracted me above all else.

Excellent portrait..looks very interesting photo, I like the background also (i know some people will like it to be blur) it is colorful and gives a feel of the kind of street (maybe traditional market).

amna, indeed i would have blurred this background, however the shot was taken at a split seconds notice, and i had no time for adjustments. i was fortunate enough to capture this image in any instance. it was at a small shop but not at a market as such.

Wonderful colours beautifully composed and pin sharp. The man himself has that lived in face that just cries out to be photographed and his expression is wonderful.

I think it's perfect as it is, Too much blurring removes the subject from the surroundings.

Nice shot. I like the the expression of his eyes, they "talk" too much.
Again... Congrats.

James I really love your port folio. I know this is an old one from 2004, but it's still as thought provoking as it was when you posted it. It is so enjoyable and interesting to see how parts of the world other than ours live, look, dress and feel. You've done a great job here and I hope to see more of your work posted!
Congrats to you.

Hi .B. This image was one of my first digital images, and at the time I really liked it (still do). But now I see how little I knew and how much I had to learn back then.

Thanks for the inspiring comment here.

Take care ~ James
