About Here it is, my contribution for "Blurry Image". I have to admit that I didn't go out and shoot this image. But honestly, I withheld this image for quite some time just to upload it when the time has arrived ;-)

I like the different levels here with the blurred foreground and the sharp background. Shutter was actually 1/5, and I sat down waiting for my delayed flight with the camera at my knees. I think the actual height of the camera fits in with the subject.

As for PS: no color balance this time ;-) I had to remove the evil yellow toning that the automatic white balance caused with the artificial lighting in here. small crop. no other changes.

comments are appreciated a lot.

Hi Thilo, I had a fierce discussion with Neil yesterday about the purpose of a blur. I think the pitfall with the current project is that a blurry image is posted where the blur is the purpose of the shot, and not, like I think it should be, a useful mean in creating, enhancing or capturing a specific atmosphere or effect.

In this shot, I don't think that's the case here, though, but it's always hard to assess....) I like the tones in this one. They also add to the atmosphere. The motion stresses the frantic behaviour of people on airports, in combination with types (like you) who have time to spare. That's what I like about airports, there's always so much to see!

There's not much to nitpick about this photo, the composition, tones and setup is exactly the way i perceive the "airport life". Compliments!

Cheers,

Hugo

Thilo,
To me, it's all abou the subject's hand in this one. Beautiful!

Outstanding image, Thilo!! Captures the movement and harried atmosphere of the airport. The colors add to the drama. Great job. .>Brad

Dear Debra,

thanks a lot for your inspiring words. you're right, in some airports, it's really not easy NOT getting lost ;-) great that you like the color. I thought about a b/w version but went finally for the colored one.

Cheers, Thilo

Dear Hugo,

I followed your discussion... but didn't want to interrupt, just following it from the audience.

It's for sure not too easy to determine if the blur is the purpose or just a mean. here, the blur is indeed just a mean... I sat there, waiting for the delayed airplane, and thought about using the spare time for some creativity actions. I shot about 30 pictures here, and with the first pictures I had the luck to get different levels of sharpness/blur and people. btw, this picture is also made there

http://www.usefilm.com/image/431002.html

so actually this shot is a candid (like Angelo does, great work of him) with the idea in mind of creating several levels of interest.

thanks for your kind words, Thilo

Tolles interestantes Bild!

vg, uwe

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 7/30/2004

Great colour and revels something I have always liked about walking, that is that, briefly, the hand is still. Often used to think about that, this is the only photo I have seen of it.
Great yellow event happening in this too

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 9/2/2004
Great shot - makes me want to try something similar. The detail that caught my eye was the impossibly stretched and rubber-like leg of the woman ahead of the guy in the yellow jacket.
