About I saw this rock sitting by the road, on the way up a mountainside. The way the sunlight filtered through the trees, it almost looked as if the light were was coming from within. I have no clue why the hole was there. Or did I just imagine it?

Very cool photo....and so unusual. It has a similarity to the English contempory artist Andy Goldsworthy. Have you heard of him? You can see his images on Goggle in the images tab.... very cool i think you will like his stuff.
here is a site that shows some of his photos:

Fabulous light and texture Rebecca. It really does resemble a fallen elephant with his truck buried in the ground and a woeful expression. The light does appear to be emanating from within the rock. The hole is there alright but why and how did it get there. It doesn't look like a natural occuring hole but as if it were drilled. Good eye on one of those things you catch in your peripheral and do a double-take.

Lovely! I was driving around the UK and saw several millstones and despite telling myself I would take a photo I never did... this one just needs a little shaping and it would fir the bill1

Nice shot - I would guess the rock comes from the prehistoric times when they used holes to grind grain - LOL. lighting very nice.

Rebecca... hmmmm what was ya smokin? lol... really this is odd... such a perfect hole in the rock...weird... but cool...I can just visualize you getting down and looking in that hole..LOL grins..

Very interesting. I can see why it got your attention. I agree with Christine that it looks like the head of an elephant. Does that hole go all the way through the stone? Maybe a highway construction crew drilled that hole to place dynamite into to blow it to pieces but changed their minds.

Hmmmm. I agree with the millstone idea .... I think. Seems to be part of a greater something anyway. Great texture and interesting lighting.

I think you just imagined it. And I can't explain why I seem to be imagining it too. Sometimes the world works in strange and wonderful ways.

Amazing subject, well seen and beautifully captured. How bizar! The whole is almost perfectly round. A close uo of this rock could make for a wonderful natural abstract
You captured a great moment. It looks like a magic rock that iradiates light.
Fantastic shot!!!!
Regards - Emgy
