some may think it's technically wrong to have the frontman blurred and the drummer in the background sharp,but for me this is a nice thing that makes the picture more interesting ;-)
if i knew this band i might have more to say.

todd, who would you compare them to? similar to mmw? radiohead? somewhere in between? any particular albums i should check out? just curious.

hi tom.
the beta band were like no other. radiohead has cited them as a major influence on Kid A and Amnesiac, and the Betas opened for radiohead on their 2001 US tour.
their music is truly indescribable. it is some sort of mix of folk and electronica, but they need to be heard to be believed.
they were notorious for their live shows, where the visuals were second to none. crazy photos projected on the band members (wearing all white), giant tambourines, suits made from human hair... completely insane. they also made short films which would be played throughout the shows as well...often hilarious and always beautifully shot.
check out their new disk 'Heroes to Zeroes' for their most refined album to date and take it from there. The appropriately titled 'The 3 EPs' has their first 3 recordings on one CD and is easily their most popular-includes the song 'Dry the Rain' which had a small role in the movie High Fidelity.

Funny, i saw in in Paradiso, Amsterdam, about 5 years ago. They showed some hilarious homemade movies while playing.

MMW = Medeski, Martin and Wood a jazz trio from NYC who make fantastic music. Tom and I share an appreciation for them...

this is insane, my friend kelly (also from minneapolis) who went to amsterdam on a totally different occasion than i did, went to this same (last, sadly) show! because she told me of how amazing this show was, i made a point to play the beta band on my ipod during my trip, and as a result, have the images of amsterdam engraved into my head as i listen to their music :) i was lucky enough to catch broken social scene at the paradiso while i was there. anywhoo beautiful picture, and lovely colors
