| About |
Another photo taken Saturday April 12, 2003 in Ottawa.
I'm not sure to whom the "eux" refers and exactly what it's supposed to mean in this context.
I had reluctantly concluded in 2002 that the only course of action available to the US was to invade Iraq and unseat Saddam. I thought that WE were "Eux"! I did in fact get into a verbal contest over who was more "Eux", those of us who supported the invasion, or those marching in protest that afternoon.
Loosing my photojournalistic detachment, I started to point at subsequent marchers and hurl, "I accuse YOU!! Where were YOU last month when it was time to march in protest against Saddam!" I guess for a moment I thought I was Emil Zola or something like that.
Needless to say, my high-temperature tirade was not effective in changing anyone's mind. I felt good for a few minutes but now, more than a year later, I think the proper thing would have been either (a) to try to engage the marchers in civilized dialog or (b) simply to take photos and move on.
