About Another photo taken Saturday April 12, 2003 in Ottawa.

I'm not sure to whom the "eux" refers and exactly what it's supposed to mean in this context.

I had reluctantly concluded in 2002 that the only course of action available to the US was to invade Iraq and unseat Saddam. I thought that WE were "Eux"! I did in fact get into a verbal contest over who was more "Eux", those of us who supported the invasion, or those marching in protest that afternoon.

Loosing my photojournalistic detachment, I started to point at subsequent marchers and hurl, "I accuse YOU!! Where were YOU last month when it was time to march in protest against Saddam!" I guess for a moment I thought I was Emil Zola or something like that.

Needless to say, my high-temperature tirade was not effective in changing anyone's mind. I felt good for a few minutes but now, more than a year later, I think the proper thing would have been either (a) to try to engage the marchers in civilized dialog or (b) simply to take photos and move on.

I would be very proud if we did invade Iraq to unseat Saddam and I'm so sorry I became so cinical and reading those signs I'm also confused.

No es un comentario sobre el barbarismo de la guerra, sino algo sobre la estupidez del pacifism en la cara del mal.
