Nice meteor, you can see the Milky Way too. Great shot! I'm surprised with the noise in the picture, I've seen longer exposures from the 300D that didn't have noise. But maybe the images were processed to get rid of that. Oh well, digital still isn't perfect. Have you tried any longer exposures?

yes I have, but unlucky did not get any meteor passing by :(. I did get the shot with the clouds though, looks very interesting with the long exposure :). thanks

hello cessy,
night skies full of traffic always fascinate me :-)
the first thing that would improve your image,in my opinion,is not the lack of noise but just more sharpness on the stars - i could say the lens wasn't focused at infinity,but then it's only the right part of the picture that suffers. since it's a digital file i cannot blame any scanner for this 'selective' sharpness...

Wow, this is wonderful. :)
One method that works to get rid of the hot pixels (the red ones) is to zoom in very close and select one with the wand. Then choose select/similar. Add a hue/saturation layer, choose the red channel, and reduce saturation. Only those pixels change, and everything else stays the same. :)

A very nice shot one of the things I have found to help with night sky shots is a telephoto zoom of say 300mm and being in a spot with less light polution the stars may elongate a tad more creating more complete lines but then experimentation is half the fun. one method is to take a sona tube (large cardboard tube used for cement footings) and making a light sheild could help it will help concentrate the star light.

thanks Richard, I read in an article before I took this photograph, that ideally, a wide-angle lens with big aperture should be used to obtain a reasonable amount of sky coverage. that's why I used this 18-55mm, at the widest angle I have :). I took this shot at a hill trying to avoid the lights from the city. it's true it was fun experimenting. I shall try your advice next time. cheers,cessy

It's always more difficult to take good photos
of night sky without city lights, and with the falling star... is really a fantastic shot!!!
