About On a cycle ride yesterday I had noticed some tall tufts of grass poking out above the wheat in the field in this image and decided I'd drag myself out of bed at 5:20 this morning to see if I could catch the dawn light on them, providing a nice contrast with the darker wheat beneath. Imagine my dismay then when I arrived at the field to find that the farmer had worked all night to harvest the crop! Fortunately the freshly harvested field provided a nice lead-in to the beautiful church at Bullington and the dawn light was better than I could have wished for. The exposure was very difficult due to the brightness of the sky and field relative the the dark hedgerow and church. In the end I used a 0.6 hard ND grad on the sky and a 0.9 soft ND grad reversed to cover the field leaving the darker area unfiltered. I used an 81B warm-up to accentuate the dawn light.

barry, great shot! love how you've captured the symmetry in nature. the rows in the field leading to the church with matching clouds overhead is a wonderful effect. very nice and welcoming colors. i think the warming filter really topped this one off. great job!

take care,
tom
