About "Congress shall make no law ... prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

I took this photo on a much quieter weekend in NYC, three weeks ago. But in light of the amazing anti-Bush protest today in NYC, I thought it would be an approrpriate post.

I did a double-take when I walked by this nice young lady selling "No-Bush" t-shirts. I wasn't 100% sure if the image was "W" or not.

"Is that Bush?" I asked. "Yes", she replied.

"I don't agree with the sentiment, but I have to say, it's a cute t-shirt" I continued.

We talked for a few moments, two Americans amicably sharing our quite different views on politics and policy. Our political views may have separated us, but as two naturalized Americans, we both shared much more, including our "Alma Mater", our Soul Mother, our adopted country.

Before we parted, this delightful young lady gladly posed for a photo. Then we wished each other well and I went on to retrieve my two kids, waiting for me a few blocks away on W. 3rd Street.

It was a good day to be an American.

The measure of a great country is not wealth or power.....but rather, the freedom of each and every one of us, rich, poor, black, white, or anywhere in-between, to have a say. We all speak, and we speak without fear. Like your disregard for "PC", Steve.

imho george bush is a real embarrassment to his country, but then again look at the so-called leaders of my country...

anyway, nice photo. :)

Hi Paula,

>>imho george bush is a real embarrassment to his country<<

Being a reader of the BBC online, as well as other European media, (or for that matter, much of the US media) I can understand why you feel that way.

Having thoroughly read through the reports of the many recent panels and commissions (including the UK Butler Commission), I can tell you that I have come to the opposite conclusion.

Best regards,
SteveR
