This is a really pretty photograph. I've never heard of the island Ameland. What a pretty place to vacation.

Hello Klaas Jan,
Thanks for your comment, but... the horizon IS straight. What you see on the right side are dunes (sandhills), and, ofcourse, much higher then the sealevel. These sanddunes are surrounding the whole island, protecting it from the sea. The tides here are comming very fast; one moment you stand with your feet dry on the sand, and an hour later the water reaches your shoulders. The beaches here are very broad. What you see here is only half the broadness of the beach and when you come a few hours later, the beach is almost gone. I wished you could see this picture in full size, then you would see the straight horizontal line of the sea better I think.

Jammer dat je niet zulks mooi weer hebt gehad. maar gezien jou creativiteit denk ik dat je van de situatie een deugd hebt gemaakt.Dat kun je zien aan deze prachtige zeegezicht wwar je de wind en regn van af kunt lezen,Ik had denk ik iets minder van het strand gecropt

Hi Diana, Amazingly strong image, with the threatening clouds and the wid swept beaches. Well composed, and I agree, the horizon is perfectly aligned (horizontal), but I can see Klaas Jan's initial thought; the dunes give the perseption of a slight counter clockwise slant. Well exposed, and a very impressive image.

Hi Diana; I think this is beautiful. You've captured a wonderful mood here-- and yes it does lot cold and windy-- much like the Oregon Coast USA where I live. Wow what a dark moody, foreboding sky you have captured :-) It looks a beautiful place to visit the island of Ameland (I will have to get my map out lol).
The composition is magnificent, the clouds are great but the sea and smoothness of the sand are really spectacular.
It is a great landscape photo Diana and a lovely choice of frame :-)

dear diana,
even as i don't feel the cold in your exceptional picture, i very well have a strong feeling of upcoming strong and bad weather. excellent use of technique making a strong impression.
after checking various times i tend to jan's opinion about the horizon. even though it might not be measurably tilting to the left, the impression does. but what the heck, it is strong, excellently seen and captured and the rest is peanuts. congratulations!

you're very lucky that you do get time to visit so many beautiful places so often. otherwise, i m thinking to visit the beautiful northern areas of my country since last two years..:)

Marvelous sea/landscape image. One of the best of this kind I have ever seen here. Composition,colors,DOF and last not least beautifully framed...it is just perfect IMO. It is pure nature and nothing manipulated with filters or other tools. It sure deserves a higher rating than 5.8...It's a GREAT photographic painting.7+++

Thank you for your nice comment. To be honest.... this is my most favorite picture of the island. The colours didn't need any manipulation because they were just right as it was. I don't care much about the ratings because I know people like more spectacular colours in seascapes and to feel the right atmosphere is so very personal.
