I love old photographs and enjoy restoring them as well. I wonder why people never smiled. The mother in paticular in this pic looks particularly miserable. I have some of my own families photos that I've restored, I really get a sense of accomplishment from doing it. Thanks for sharing yours!

I think she looks miserable because the Dodrill farm was in the holler (a river valley) of Virgina before it became West Virginia. There was no power, no running water, and seven children. The father pictured died shortly after the photograph was taken.
The child second from the right went on to become my wife's grandfather.

Excellent restoration - you really cleaned up a mess while retaining the spirit of the original. And seven children wasn't all that many back then; it wasn't uncommon to have children numbering in the teens, although they rarely all made it to adulthood. Well done!
