About Just for a change, something different from my usual work.
This is the first of a series of holiday photos in B&W and high contrast.
All of them were taken in Sardinia, on a 6 km gorgeous beach called Portopino.
Sardinia is one of the three largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea.
The series is dedicated to my UF friends and to all the people who, with all respect, don?t like
whatever is different from the ?normal? photographic work.
Thanks for looking. ? Emgy

Getulio Melo   {K:6481} 9/10/2004
Great capture! I liked this highly contrasted b&w version. Well done!
Regards.

Dr. Rafael Springmann   {K:86479} 9/10/2004
Finally, dear Emgy! I was waiting and waing and then a surprise! What you do with a B&W sketch cannot be done by many others with full colors. I'm glad you changed the photo to B&W, it's much more dramatic this way.
Thank you for your comprehasinve analysis of my "Variation 2". As to prefering it to the other ones, each person has his or her own preferences. I see the whole series as a unit in which, like in music, a theme developes into variations.
Love,
Rafi

. .   {K:16329} 9/10/2004
Color disguises children..........black & white exposes them. I?m with William Golding on children........they?re savages. This picture screams ?Lord of the Flies? to me. And the symbols they scar the sand with?........ are they coherent?....what do they mean? They can?t be fully seen from ground level, only from high in the air......they must be secret messages to the barking sky god. Good to keep these children in schools....separated ... otherwise they?d band up and rove the world, destroying civilization as we know it.

Emgy, a poignant image! Strikingly unusual, and one of your best!!

Dr. Rafael Springmann   {K:86479} 9/10/2004
There is no law against using the same photo more than once, So I use this one to thank you for your generous comments on my "Variatin 1" and my "Theme" and unless by that time you have posted another photo, I might use it again in case you comment on a further variation, hopefully to be posted tonight.
Love,
Rafi

Rob Ernsting   {K:8919} 9/10/2004
Welcome back my friend and congratulations with your different style of photography. I like it, it gives a certain amplification of the action of what the kid was doing. Very nice, Rob.

Patty Morena   {K:16598} 9/10/2004

Jan Symank   {K:15755} 9/10/2004

The high contrast enhances the lines and the silhouette of the young artist very well.
He and you both created great pictures

Jan

John Hatziemmanouil   {K:40580} 9/11/2004
Unique photo Emgy, artistique because of the high contrast. Nice.

Robert Gaither   {K:28975} 9/11/2004
I've sworn up and down I'm going to do a high contrast image but haven't found the right image for me. This is mighty fine and works well. This has to be a favorite for me. Excellent composition.

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 9/11/2004
Thank you Robert. You know, after I decided to do this in high contrast I also decided that I wanted to do a series with the same effect but, much to my surprise it took me quite a time to find the right pics that would suit this one. Apparently, the high-key effect doesn't work well with all types of photos. Something new I have learned experimenting. But....it was fun!

Gregory McLemore   {K:24959} 9/11/2004
Wow, very creative, a dark beauty, wonderful effect.

Tony Quinlan   {K:2073} 9/11/2004
I like it a lot!
:-)

P. Christine Skinner   {K:27348} 9/12/2004
A wonderful creative and artistic approach Emgy. Kind of like a pen and ink stippling. I love the original as well, the shades are so lovely and muted.

donato r.   {K:16361} 9/12/2004

Maria Grazia Rapisarda   {K:15818} 9/13/2004
Complimenti Emgy!!
Maria Grazia

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 9/13/2004
Mille grazie, Maria Grazia.

Tim Bronkhorst   {K:9391} 9/14/2004
It's fun. I think it's very important to stay open for new things, otherwise photographie it self won't be able to move forward anytime. But a big problem whit new art is taste, people don't like a lot of things that are new. I'am sorry, although I have a artistic background from my school, I can't say I like this. But I have to acmid there is something in the high contrast area. Maybe you'll have to explain your thoughts by this picture.
Greets Tim.

Diana Wiersma   {K:26404} 9/14/2004
Hallo Emgy,
Heel artistiek gedaan!
groetjes,
Diana.
(PS... hoe is het met het niet-roken???)

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 9/14/2004
Hi Tim
Thanks for commenting and for being sincere about your thoughts.
The idea behind this shot is explained in what follows:
The kid on the beach attracted my attention cause she was completely taken by her drawing on the sand in a way that seemed to me somewhat unusual. You know how kids generally get curious about camera?s and like to be photographed. This little girl seemed different. Her mother called her a couple of times to draw her attention to the fact that she was being photographed but in no way she would be distracted by anything happening around her. It was as if she wasn?t there but in a completely different place and time where only she and her creation were the only important things. I have no ideas of what she thought she was drawing but I ?m sure it was something she found interesting and exciting. It?s this moment in ?her world? that I?ve tried to give an idea of by eliminating distracting elements like colour, sea water and sand. The use of high contrast made it possible to leave only the kid and her art work in the image. Maybe not a big deal to many, but I like this version of the photo. Likes and dislikes are always very subjective, particularly on personal style work so?. it didn?t surprise me that you don?t like it, Tim.
Best regards - Emgy

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 9/14/2004
Hi Diana. Heel erg bedankt.
Groetjes - Emgy

xy x   {K:41915} 9/15/2004

Steffi Posthumus   {K:376} 9/15/2004
I really like the B&W photo, he high contrast makes it very special.
The drawing of the child looks a bit like a head or brains or something!

Emgy Massidda   {K:60169} 9/15/2004
Thank you, Steffi
Yeah that's what I have thought of the drawing. It looks like the head of an UFO alien, like those you see in science fiction movies.
I'm glad you like it
Groetjes - Emgy

Massimo Di Maggio   {K:-56794} 9/26/2004
Baci Max

Anouschka Rokebrand   {K:6470} 9/29/2004
