About Subject Background: I like the geometry & shadows in this image so I let some pedestrian walk by and captured him.

Photoshop concept: Small crop, changed the toning as the original one was quite uninteresting. Mild sharpening.

As always: Honest feedback highly appreciated.

EDIT: As the upper right area seems to create some misunderstanding, I would like to add that this is a rectangular hole in the wall, no shadow or an artificial Photoshop element/effect. The only small change I made was to erase the McDonalds sign that shine through the hole.

Very cool - the surealistic vision here is very well realized -- great work - love the blue tones and the blur -- like a dream .. K 7++

José Azevedo   {K:9681} 9/10/2004
Beautiful textures, tones, geometry. The divisions created by the composition makes it even more interesting.

Excellent design, very graphic, cool mood. That blurred man is a nice touch.

There's only one thing that's a bit strange: the central column seems to have a slight turn to the left. Could this be distortion from the lens or is it really like it. It's a bit annoying for the image is very graphic, well composed and constructed and this misalligned line breakes the mood a bit. The columns on the left show the lens barrel distortion but that looks natural, is even expected on a wide angle. But this central is strange. Never mind, though, it doesn't take the brilliance of the image. It's just a question that came to my mind.

Congratulations for the great vision and perfect realization!

Regards from Brazil,

Jose Azevedo

Excellent .

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 9/10/2004
Super-geometrical. The black area in the upper right is a good surprising element, perfect to balance the person walking by. Very good choice of shutter for the mood here.

Cenk KIRBAS   {K:1739} 9/10/2004
quite interesting. It feels like you are gone wake up any moment but you can't, cause you are stuck.

Nice blue light.

Composition excelent, giving me the creeps like being lost..

Peter De Rycke   {K:39471} 9/10/2004
Lovely shot !!
Although i find the composition heavy with the big black square on the right .. the light and shadowspots and waves under the walkway are just stunning to see .. regards, Peter

Hi Thilo,fantastische Geisterstunde...
Gute Nacht,Ursula

Gianluca Gera   {K:2184} 9/10/2004
I love it. Very creative, very cool. I'd actually like to have this picture hanging off my wall. The only bit I am unsure about is the black area in the top right corner of the image, which I find somewhat distracting....

gorgeous work Thilo. great moody blue tones. (not to be confused with moody blues tunes)

Hi Thilo,

LG, Pia :)

Dear Jose,
first of all: thanks for the lenghty and elaborate comment. really appreciate that.

It speaks for your observation skills if you see the slight distorsion. To be honest, I had to work a bit on the geometry as my original picture was a bit weak in that area. I hoped that nobody recognizes this but it seems I've found my master ;-) Kudos to your eyes. Great to have such good observers at Useful.
thanks for the feedback,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 9/11/2004
Dear Stefan,

thanks for the feedback. It seems that the black plane is perceived in a different way. You perfectly say how I feel about this black area.

Funny side note: There was a McDonalds sign shining through that hole that I deleted via PS. Hope you don't mind =)
Take care and thanks for the critics,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 9/11/2004

Dear Aria,

glad that you liked it. but way too much honor for me ;-) thanks for the support,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 9/11/2004
Dear Peter,

I know that the black area is kind of heavy but it has to fight against 3/4 of the image ;-)
thx for the critics,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 9/11/2004
Hi Ursula,

war auch fast schon geisterstunde ;-)
zumindest für die leute, die in feuchtwangen in der spielbank verloren haben (dort waren wir nämlich).
Lg,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 9/11/2004
Dear Gianluca,
hey, that would be great honor to capture something that you would like to hang on your wall ;-)
as for the upper right area: I know that this is kind of heavy, but to be honest: without the "window" this image would be less attractive, at least in my eyes =)
take care and thanks for the feedback,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 9/11/2004
Dear Gayle,

you're right about the gun sighting, good eyes!
thanks for supporting my black hole in the upper right ;-)
take care,
thilo

Neil Dolman   {K:26883} 9/12/2004
Hi Thilo, nice shot and quite unusual. I like your PS treatment and the blue toning. There is something (for me) a liitle strange about the perspective, maybe it's just the shadow of the top window - bit at first i thought it was because you maybe weren't parallel to the wall. It is quite a strong graphical image.
The answer to your question is "Yes" my 35-105mm AF D is my workhorse, travel lens. I've had it for ages. I notice though that with the D70 i would like to be able to go wider. But it is a handy format if you can only take 1 lens with you, and it's solid as a rock. I prefer the push-pull zoom to the rotating action.
Best wishes Neil

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 9/12/2004
Hi Neil,

thanks for the constructive feedback. as for the upper right area: actually, this is NOT a shadow but a rectangle hole in the wall. one can view through that hole and see .... the McDonalds sign ;-) (that I deleted).

I will go for a 24-135mm Sigma as a standard, hopefully I will get that lens soon and check if that was the right decision. push/pull-zoom sounds nice.

Take care,
Thilo

Stephen Bowden   {K:64519} 9/12/2004
