About These giant chess pieces are outside hte library in Leeds.

It was taken at about 5PM so the sun was still bright but giving nice long shadows (here comes winter).

Threw a lot of Photoshop at this one...

Did the following layers...

Levels
Chanel Mixer (to greyscale it, red at -50)
Layer with High pass filter
Layer with Noise Filter
Layer with Gaussian Blur

Played around with the blending modes till I got a texture I was happy with -0 not to sharp yet still some sharp edges there.

Hi Ade, I have been in Leeds before two months and i remember a chess in front of a library. I made also some shots of people playing with these giant chess pieces. You made a lot of works here and your result is very good. Bright, clear pieces, even one which is a little bit overexposed (the first knight on right side). I like especially black chesspieces, "drawning" in black background. Congratulations. Radomir

Thanks for the kind comments Radomir.

The actual original (below) wasn't vastly different to what you see. I cropped it to get the more interesting pieces then just experimented really.

I've not usd the Noise filter for ages so was really pleased with that result, the Blur adds that bit of softness or dreaminess. Then changing the blending modes opens up a whole world of different views of the image.

I think I made that knight overexpose with the levels - I was trying toget more detail in the black pieces.

I've got a few photos of the Chess players, it's a good subject for the Henri project - you should select one of yours and put it up some time.

Cheers

Ade

Hi Ade, thanks for detailed explanations of picture's origin. It is also good to compare it with original picture, the modified one is better than original in my opinion.

I agree with you, that the Chess players are a good subject for the Henri project. Unfortunatelly, my photos are not good enough to be presented here. There was a lot of people when I was there and I didn't catch them very well. It's pity. But I'm sure, that I will try it again during my next visit in Leeds.

Cheers. Radomir

quality pun there old boy!

had a "chequered" few days with the camera - been a bit "Stale, mate".

nuff of that!

Not had tome to do any photoshopping or much on the web - my boss requested I take Photoshop off my work PC as productivity enhancer, and I keep getting dragged to the pub.... Old Peculiar last night was on fine form!

Also been trying some new "normal" zooms lenses, the Canon EF 24-85 may be hitting the credit card soon - though the 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM is only $400 from the states.....

don't ever get a DSLR... the lenses are tooooo tempting!
