Nice baby Flamingo, well framed. The lense has some harsh edges on the bokeh making the backgound distracting.

Ned Ali   {K:11901} 9/25/2004
You're right Robert.
Actually I have a few shots (taken with this lens) that show such thing. In fact, I don't know what it is, but I'm sure it's the lens.

is it avoidable?!

Many thanks to you, Robert.

Yes Ned, it is the lens. Nothing you can do about it as it is a part of the optical design, in this case not so good. This is an area where lenses become legendary because of a soft out of focus characteristics called bokeh.
Still a cute shot so don't let the background take that away from you.

Ned Ali   {K:11901} 9/27/2004
Many thanks to you Robert for the explanation.

mmmmmmm Does that mean it occurs in the same part of the pic every time it shows up? and why it doesn't occur in all the shots? I would guess it has something to do with the light in that specific shot, e.g. orientation of the light.

Sorry for dumping all those questions on you, but I really need to know more about it as I'm considering a fast tele lens which will cost me a lot.

These 3 pages give an explanation of bokeh.
