Excellent composition, there is no way on earth I would get my kids into that house lol
I love the B&W it gives it a fabulous eerie edge to it. The tree is outstanding, I wonder if it moves in real life ?

The light and the shadows enhance the spooky mood

the foreground is a bit dark thus the details in the statue were lost.
PS for the lens it can not be used for Nikon F65 for example, it is designed for DSRL such as the D70

it's such a weird scene! I like the shadows very much, as well as the sky. It's funny, though, how those two are walking by as if everything is so usual ;)
that fact makes it even more interesting!

the relatively low detail in the statue comes from the original image, not the rework ;-)
as for the lens: I own both a D70 and a F65, but good to know that you have a DSLR-specialized lens. Thanks for the info.

Hi Thilo, Some grain, but nothing to be nitpicking about here. We've discussed difference in style, and I came to the conclusion, there's no arguing appeal.... (hey! As if we didn't know that yet...:) I always appreciate your efforts in pushing the envelope, and admire you for that. That includes your always helpful and profound comments...
I love the lighting in this shot, and think the psycho atmosphere is almost tangible. Emphasising that atmosphere, I think the only thing I would've considered a lower camera position, to make the "haunted house" tower out into the sky a bit more.
Other than that, a very strong image, and a 5.1 rating is way to low.... Let's see if I can justify that....

thanks again for the elaborate comment. as for the grain: I decided not to use Neat Image this time as I hoped it would support the scary mood =)
I have to admit that this was the first time I ever used a REAL wide angle (aka a analogue camera without focal length enlargement). Si I have to learn a lot in this field, especially possible wide angle distortion. I should have started with my D70 as the learning curve is far better than with real film ;-) but: good wide angles (12-24) for DSLR are really expensive, even from Sigma.
So yes, you're right about the angle (and the position, if I may add this).
about the rating: I don't care anymore as the rating is far beyond EVERYTHING I was taught in statistics. I like to see some 6.0+ ratings, for sure. But if the rating is well below that (and I personally have a different feeling), that's just strange. nothing else.
but anyway, thanks for trying to create a different rating picture =)

unfortunately, the rating is not an arithmetical mean so it cannot by "cheated" ;-) Don't ask me what the UF brains do here but it doesn't make sense to me. 5.3 by 2 ratings, that's just impossible...

Thanks for your reply, On the wide angle, I got one with my D100, and I?m really happy with it. I rarely use it with the DSLR, but mostly with the F100, which creates some awesome results. The distortion is rather big, though, and minimising it (obscuring it is better phrased) requires the camera to be perfectly level. If choosing a lower camera position, it needs to be exagerated, otherwise it will become a "flaw", if you see what I mean.
With the DSLR, the distortion (a good thing in this shot) would is slightly reduced by the magnifying factor of the CCD, which is the reason I tend to use it with film only.
Didn't say the grain was a bad thing... ) I do agree it fits with the eerie atmosphere. As you know, I like some grain / noise myself too....
