Hi Anthony,
I always have to look when it's a wedding.
Nice expressions on both of these people, the girl's father? It makes a great candid shot. For something more formal or rather if you have a minute, just tell each of them to slightly tip their heads toward each other, if they are related that looks good, shows closeness.
Indeed shine from flash can be retouch. If doing it digitally, don't remove all of the shine since then it begins to look phony.
Lastly, her flowers could be held just a few inches inches lower!
These are all just little things, this photograph certainly is pleasing to the bride and groom as is! But all these little things are what make the difference between a good image and a GREAT image!

Hi Lori,
I wanted to thank you for your advice and kind words on my wedding shot. It means a lot to me that you took the time to comment. I know how little time we all have and your words were very encouraging to me.
The advice you gave was great and exactly the type of critique I need to hear to help me improve.
I stopped by your portfolio and got lost for awhile! Your work is fantastic and very diverse, which I think it a testament to how good you really are.
If I could trouble you for one small bit of advice? Can you recommend a good book on wedding photography? I tried to find one and was overwhelmed by the number of choices. If there are one or two that would be most helpful I would certainly appreciate it.

In answer to your question, can't think if a book right now to reccommend. I haven't purchased one in years, in the beginning I had tons of books, since then I have given them away to people who were really interesting in wedding photography such as yourself.
I went to the book store and just started collecting them, and at camera stores also. Try amazon.com, maybe they have some, probably do.
There is a magazine, called 'Rangefinder'....it's a great one for the photographer just starting to get really serious. Lots of articles every issue pertaining to wedding photography!!
I just looked it up on Google, here is the 'address':

And I see that you can look through the October issue on line. It looks like this particular month the focus is children's phtoography.
Another magazine is 'WPPI', and the address is:

This one is about just wedding photography. Both magazines are very good. When I first started out doing weddings (and studio also) I 'lived' for these publications, always something good in them.
(and I don't own stock in these companies!! LOL...just like to pass on some info and hope it helps)

I think You need to bounce or soften the light a bit.
Mayby a difuser on the flash would work!

Pleasant pose, varation could be with man's arm, escort w/lady arm through etc. flowers a bit lower.
Read your forum report, interesting. I retired from doing weddings about 5 years ago.....today looking at starting doing them again, but in a city, in another area. Maybe w/most of them digital.

Hi Anthony ......All the tips you have recieved here are correct and will lead you to developing a better style. May I add this: Look for a book on wedding photography by "Monti Zucker"... or/even try to attend one or all of his seminars. You would also do well to join your State's "professional photographer's Assoc.." That way .. you will be exposed to all their seminars and knowledge. As you are finding out.. youdon'tjust show up at the wedding and shoot everything that smiles or moves. lolo. .. And Monti's style of the love story is valuable and a learning experience. You will learn the Male and the Female pose .. yes.. there is a difference. You're off to a great start. Hope this all helps.
