Interesting shot. I like the use of foreground and background. The whole image seems to be out of focuse he should be fuzzy while the background is sharp I think that would work better.

Hi Maria;

I tend to see it in terms of spatial concepts and time, although I do see your perception of it as well. It is so appropriate for the Henri project. And also the Winogrand project if there will be one. Warm regards,

Mark

How could I miss it!
like the composition here - there is a strong contrast between the unsharp foreground and sharp background;
like that the face covers half of the picture -this emphasizes the message;
considered and good title - it fix to the shot;
just excellent

Lukasz

Hi Rajnish:
Thanks very much for your comment.
Here is the original. It's more dof.
Greetings.

Rajnish Duara   {K:1142} 10/3/2004
Sorry Maria, I couldn't detect much of a difference, actually I wanted the contours in the old man's face to be prominent.
Thanx for your feedback.
Rds,RD.

Allen Aisenstein   {K:5652} 10/3/2004
Interesting contrasts, Maria. Well done.

Dr. Rafael Springmann   {K:87615} 10/3/2004
As I already told you, possibly more than once and it is not my invention, the expression of an emotion via graphic or photographic means is the essence of art.
in you "Sadness" the contrast of the sad face in the front of the photo and the dancers in the background brings out the man's sadness even more and as the focus is more on the dancers, the sad man's face being unsharp may express his uncertainty further.
Thank you, dear Maria, for your friendly comment on my "Waiting for the next bus".
Saludas and Shalom,
Rafi

Ahmad Hasan   {K:4209} 10/3/2004

wow ! well done Maria !! great scene !

Christian Barrette   {K:21125} 10/4/2004
Muy evocativo, el rostro pensativo y la sardana. Cuenta mucho de lo que vincula esta danza. Tecnicamente, tiene fallas, pero esta imagen nos toca pese a ellas.

María, a very good shot! In my youth I danced with the stars. Now I relate to the old man, in his face there are scars of many hard years, but as I look closer I see a star still shining within his eyes. Granpapi hugs to you, Phil

Shady Youssef   {K:1227} 1/29/2005
what a drama in this work....awesome one

Chuck Freeman   {K:13556} 3/7/2005
This is a nice photo-it pretty well describes old age to a degree; Set against a backdrop of fun and laughter and Youth.

Teodor Zgredziak   {K:666} 3/9/2005
Very good portrait

Randy Lorance   {K:24769} 3/26/2005
Very interesting shot with the contrast between the seemingly somber man in foreground and the revelers in the background. Focus is perfect here. To focus sharply on either subect would over emphasize that aspect of the composition, whereas you have achieved a good balance here.
There is a tendency (myself included)to always place too much importance on sharpness, contrast, lack of noise,ect...when while these are important, they don't always achieve the optimum result. Just as focus and contrast has added to this composition, so has lack of color with the choice of toning.

Randy

G-`FerRo GF   {K:676} 4/17/2005
nice ... a very contrasting image .. good use of DOF ... adding more depth to the composition
