About This is the first one in a line of pictures from the bazar in Istanbul.
This one also is kind of an experiment with frames. I came to find that they have an incredible inpact on the picture. Tell me what you think of this one. I'll also add the original one.
Greets Tim.

This is the original one.

Burak Tanriover   {K:16604} 10/3/2004
very well composed and you captured him in his natural behavior.
my opinion about frames is that some of the picture doesn't need frame.I think here you have to make a simple and tin frame and maybe in black.and of course I should add that this is my opinion.
best regards,Burak

Great picture!!
Love the lighting and the superb composition
About the frames, I agree with Burak.. perhaps only a blak, simple and tin frame.

Dina Marie   {K:9657} 10/3/2004

I think you have a very good shot of this olive merchant. As for the frame - I do not think it fills any function that you really need here, but it also does not detract from the image. I like the presence of the lightbulb in the upper left corner. That bulb also explains the yellow cast that you have across the picture (particularly strong on his arms): in tungsten light you need a filter to correct for this, but you could also remove it with a digital edit of course.

Hi Tim, Nicely composed shot, and I like the oriental atmosphere; almost tangible. I find the image quality a bit below average; too yellow, and a bit underexposed. Then again, it's not an easy shot... Nice to see, though and a very appealing scene.

Cheers,

Hugo

It's been sad before that the picture is to yellow. But I don't understand why I should change that, it was yellow out there so why make the picture something it could not have been. Maybe I'am missing something, but I don't totally understand.

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 10/4/2004
Hi Tim - unless you have a film designed for tungsten light or a filter to compensate with you will pick up a yellow cast in an photo lit by tungsten light. Clearly the case here since even the light source is in the photo!

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 10/4/2004
Hi Tim, you sound a bit pissed off by my comment; Didn't mean to be harsh, but as always, I'm just venting my opinion truthfully; like I also do when I admire one of your shots.

I think you agree with me, that the overall tone of the image is a bit yellow. I've beeen to the bazaar in Istanbul, but the shots I took there are definately less yellow; so it might be the film, or the scan. Another option is the one I commented on, and that's It also might be a tad underexposed, looking at the intensity of the tone in the guys shirt. The yellow tone is also one of the reasons I switched to fuji.

Having that said, it also is a matter of personal taste. I attached an alternate image, in which I played around with the levels a bit. You may or may not like it, but I think the tonal range is a bit more lively and life like (at least the way I remember it)

Hope I didn't offend you by my comment, and I should've explained myself better.

Cheers,

Hugo

Well it's a colourful and pretty busy photo where there are many elements that keep your eye interested. As for the frame, you did very well to keep it simple in this one. For some photos frames look great, for others, they seem to be superfluous and even too destracting. So.... frames are ok dependng on the photo.
Regards - Emgy

No I'aint pistoff, that isn't in my nature :) I just didn't understand, but if it really is that much to yellow I understand. It's just that if you frame a situation and you don't change anything in your picture I asume the situation was like that, but that comes out to be fals. Thanks for making me clear of that! No hard feelings or anything, I always respect your comments becouse I can keep learning from them, other then all the 'nice', 'beautifull' and so on comments.
Thanks!
Greets Tim.

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 10/5/2004
Hi Tim, thanks for your reply. I suddenly noticed you pushed the film by two stops (somehow missed that with my first comment) that might also explain the tonal aberration towards yellow. But taking it in mind, I do have to reconsider my remark about the quality; as it explains alot.

Cheers,

Hugo

It's all a big mistake, I forgot to put it there, I rememberd when adding the new picture. So sorry.
Greets Tim.
