Location City -  Venice
State -  VENETO
Country - Italy   Italy
About Subject Background: You see famous Piazza San Marco, again. I tried to combine different buildings with the awesome sky that was seen at this day - AND the groups of people walking by, standing still, coming up to me.

Photoshop concept: Worked on the lighting, slight crop. nothing else this time. =)

As always: Honest feedback highly appreciated.

the hard vertical lines they run towards the sky.. the day and the hunting in Venice have been optimal, but I adore also the film! optimal photo!!!

The perspective is just incredible Thilo, the street scene is very nicely captured - lots going on without it being too busy.

I suspect you may even have taken this photo candidly - maybe held the camera at waist height without looking through the viewfinder as noone seems to be looking straight back at you :-)

Great photo Thilo and as you say - the clouds are just fabulous and the dragon? on top of the pillar looks good also !

Best wishes,
Steve

This looks so 3D -- I, unlike some, love the tilted angles and distortion of the super-wide angle lens as used here -- can't do that with my digital PS camera -- fine job on the tones and comp...love the guy in the center with the cell phone .. K

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 10/15/2004
Hi Steve,

thanks for the indepth story ;-)

Actually, I tried to capture most of the place, including the people. I haven't been completely to the ground but I haven't made this picture without watching through the cam ;-)

as for the dragon: actually, this is a lion with wings. the lion is the most important symbol for the venetians. you can find him in numerous places.

take care and thanks for the critics,
Thilo

Mark Drago   {K:10869} 10/15/2004
again incredibly crisp, & great sky, and how did you get that bird to fly there?

I like the distorsion perspective effect very much.
The light is good and the people groups don't are confused!
Well done.

Pedro Libório   {K:53855} 10/16/2004
absolutly fantastic work here my friend,
the composition it is just great so was the perspective used, I just wish that you have a bit more space at the botton of the photo, so you do not cut the feet from persons...
regards.

Fadel J   {K:13605} 10/17/2004
This one is amazing! you captured every single detail in the scene, and the angle is just wonderfull, another great one Thilo!

Hugo de Wolf   {K:185008} 10/17/2004
Hi Thilo, It's good to see the overview now. The three point perspective created by the wide angle works very well, the distortion takes the venice square out of the ordinary, making it almost surreal. This effect is also aided by the tones. Good job!

I think an even lower camera position, maybe with a less exaggerated tilt could've been a better option, as I think the cut off feet of the passengers by are not entirely necessary. On the other hand, that would've reduced the wide angle distortion. Other than that a fine shot, a beautiful overview!

Cheers,

Hugo

Uwe Bachmann   {K:10222} 10/18/2004

vg, uwe

NN     {K:26787} 10/18/2004
Very sharp and clear as the other one. Nice to see people walking in different directions ... some just standing still. Fantastic architectural details!

Todd Miller   {K:16464} 10/19/2004
nice shot thilo...brings me back to that beautiful city. your venice pics really put mine to shame-there's a reason i haven't posted any!

great use of wide angle lens here, and the colors (especially the sky) are nice.

my eyes keep gravitating to the guy in black on his mobile phone-i wish his feet weren't cut off here. but then the focus of the shot is the architecture and sky i suppose.

well done sir!
todd

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 10/19/2004
Hey Todd,

I cannot believe that your Venice shots are not worth showing up on UF.

anyway, thx for the honest feedback. the "cut-off" issue is something I'm aware of, but not easy to handle with minimal focal length and the wish to bring in all the towers =)

take care,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 10/19/2004
Dear Elisa,

the differences between the groups is something that I personally like here =)

Take care,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 10/19/2004
Hi Uwe,

steile Stimmungsschwankungskurve in deinem posting ;-)

Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 10/19/2004
Hi Hugo,

I'm not sure if it wasn't a fault to deliver these two shots in a row... Nobody comments on the first one, as he virtually gets the first one "for free" with the additional human aspect ;-)

You're for sure right with the lower shooting point, but to be honest: I couldn't go more far away. Just the tilt won't work either because of the buildings. So I have to live with the fact, that my new 14mm would make the image ;-)

thanks for the precious comments.

Take care,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 10/19/2004
Dear Fadel,

THX for the nice words ;-)

Take care,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 10/19/2004
Dear Pedro,

thanks for the honest words. I see the cut-off-legs point... and I'm kind of sad that I just recently got my new 14mm lens which had helped me getting a better angle.

Take care,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 10/19/2004
Dear Maja,

thanks a lot for your kind words.

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 10/19/2004
Dear MaLuisa,

Venice is very "fast" ;-)
I'm glad that I could freeze this dynamic scenery for the fraction of a second.

Take care & thanks for commenting,
Thilo

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 10/19/2004
Hi Ursula,

jaja, der Handymann ist hier schon was besonderes ;-)

man hätte das ganze auch nur mit den personen machen können, aber dann wäre der weitwinkel-effekt vermutlich hinderlich gewesen...

LG,
Thilo

Hi mark,

I guess this is pure luck ;-)

Hi Kev,

3D is the word for this image. thanks for sharing that.

I also "love" the cell-phone guy... anachronism at it's best for this old town.

Take care,
Thilo

stop it, I'm getting red ;-)

Carlheinz Bayer   {K:14220} 10/19/2004
Lot to see! I usually would tend to avoid that kind of distortion but I admit it works here. Nice shoot, Bro!

learning, learning, learning ;-)

can't wait to shoot NYC...
