About Subject background: The second time that I come back to busy, loud and bright Times Square. The original picture posted (http://www.usefilm.com/image/469182.html) was heavily cut, duplex toned and showed a lack of detail (but nevertheless got lots of attention). Like George Lucas, I went to back to the darkroom and re-edited the image ;-) Therefore: Smoke! in the Director's (un)cut and in COLOR =)

PS concept: sharpening (yes!) & lots more.

As always: Honest comments highly appreciated.

Thanks to all the UF friends out there like the small German outpost (Uwe, Ursula, Verena, Pia, Magnus), the new friends (Arwa, Andrea, Bart, Baki, Cenk, Fadel, Jan, Lucy, Maja, MaLuisa, Mark, Patrick, Omar, Sergio, Stefan, Tony, Stephen) and the rather "old" friends (Angelo, Antonio, Bradley, Calle, Kevin, Carmem, Clifton, Efisio, Erik, Gayle, Gino, Hugo, Kees & Carolyn, Kristina, Maria, Neil, Pedro, Roby (!), Bradley, Walt, Walter). Hope I didn't forget anybody =)

Kevin Collier   {K:19076} 10/27/2004
Very bold and loud -- I can hear the taxi's honking horns and feel the chill of the night .. I like the boldness and clarity of the color .. K

Magnus Beierlein   {K:1641} 10/27/2004
It's directly a favourite image from my favourite city. The moving and blurry Yellow Cabs, The composition avoiding the sky and filling the frame with only the city itself. The commercial signs lighting up the night in a city that never sleeps. In the middle a beautiful lamp-post and finally the smoke coming up from the street like only in New york City. My God....all of that in one image. Respect.

Regards magnus

Thanks to you for sharing your wonderful work!

The smoke is great, it seems to be freezed in the air while the rest of the world is moving, great effect!

I love big cities, big lights, big noise... everything is here :)

WOW!!! I love this one!!! From the thumbnail, I knew it was yours!!!! You cannot hide from me anymore... :)

Love the colors, the sharpness and of course the smoke (The greatest touch of all)... The cars moving and the shinning signs give the picture an atmosphere of life and thealways running, which is the escense of a big city...

It is so full of detail that I cannot keep my eyes of it... Every time I look at it, I see something different... The reflection in the windows of the building at the left are very interesting... A block full of restaurants and life... I just got to the point... It is full of life!!! Well done my friend... I love it!! I love it!!! I love it!!!!

You have a great eye... :)

Cheers,

MaLuisa

Lucy Bernadette   {K:5785} 10/28/2004
wow. this leaves me speechless. this is a truly fantastic capture. i agree about the smoke, it's perfect. the picture is great without it, but with it it's that much more, how shall i say, new york? the heightened colour and speed at which this was taken really capture the frenetic energy here. this reminds me, somewhat, of an american artist who painted 'realistic' scenes back in the 50's/60's. can't recall his name offhand, but it has that same surreal feel to it. anyways, i'll shut up now. bravo!

Flavio Campos   {K:145} 10/28/2004
This one is so much better than the B&W! Great job...

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 10/28/2004
Hi Thilo, Finally, the one I have been waiting for....;o) The uncut version! I can see the tell tails of the sharpening, and now everything falls back into place.... I can suddenly understand why you played around it so much! Another thing is that I also realise how easy it is to critisise the options; this one would be quite difficult indeed. Thanks for sharing, and very well done....;)

Cheers,

Hugo

Mark Drago   {K:10854} 10/28/2004

NN     {K:26787} 10/29/2004
NYC ... I?m too old for this! Looks so chaotic! A colourful shot with a lot to look at, though, and a perfect presentation of the pulse of a metropolis. I can feel the polluted air ... HUH!
