About Black Pool at West Thumb, Yellowstone National Park. Yes, the pool is not black. The pool was named for black algae that grew in this relatively cool pool. However, recently the pool has become super heated, killing all the algae and turning the water a crystal clear blue.

This is so COOL ! The blue gradient is so fantastic ! is it somethin like the hot spring ?

Michael Kanemoto   {K:22103} 10/28/2004
Yee: This is a geothermic hot pool - water seeps down, gets close to the magma in the earth, and superheats and bubbles up. AS it comes back up, the water dissolves a lot of minerals, like silica. The purity of the water and the dissolved silica gives the water the bluish tone. This pool is very deep, hot, and clear and has a really neat blue color.

Another nice natural pool! I wish to be swimming there! Is that allowed? ;-)

Michael Kanemoto   {K:22103} 10/28/2004
Michele: Not only is it illegal, this pool would boil you alive. Sorry man.

Is that so warm? Wow... there are over here some stuff like that but the water is just hot.
