Thanks Armando,Llona,Roberto,Den,Dave,Jani and Anouschka for the great comments. It's so nice to be back. Don't know why I stayed away.:-D
The shot was taken from a distance of 10" (25 cms)
with the insect facing the other way. It turned around on my approach and made me pause for a second. The Hornet weighs in at about five times that of the normal wasp so it must pack a heavy punch. When it flew away it was gone in the blink of an eye. I didn't get stung but that was pure luck. I had thought I could dodge it.

Oh my God... I never go to England again, your wasps looks so evil! ;-) (Actually I have just been in England, and we came home to Sweden yesterday).
