Hi Jim,
the ferry wasn't running all day. This is the strait that they have to cross. I have a large battery that has an inverter on it so I can run my laptop or my desktop so long as the phone line isn't down as well. Plus I have another inverter in my car so if I really needed power I could run my car motor and run a cord into the house too. Most everything else in the house has alternate sources so the power outage doesn't cripple us to badly

I have read allot on the D70 and the Canon. I went D70 because it is built way better and has more functions. The Canon's CCD is just a little better but the body is not very good quality compared to Nikon's D70. We have some Nikon lens already so that was a pull in that direction as well. My wife Jennifer is a pro Photographer and has talked to the guys @ Lens and Shutter they agree get the D70.
We now have 2 of them I have taken close to 8000 photos since Aug. I just love it more and more.
Check out canadacamera.com that's were we got the last one for way less then anywhere else...no PST as well. we also have bought lens from them... great service too.
