About This is a grouping of trees next to my house, just a few meters away.
While the fog was drifting in and out from the ocean, I was capturing the brilliant sunshine reflecting off the top of the fog bank and piercing into the forest edge. This one lone deciduous tree became stained glass shards hanging in midair against the silhouetted fir trees, creating a framing affect to this awesome and fleeting moment. Minutes later we were covered in heavy wet fog once again and the magic gone.

Very nice.
A key point of this image is that it is a simple but effective composition.
Makes me wonder what lies beyond.
Well done.

Giovanni.

Gorgeous shot Tim! Really grreat light and colours, and a simple but effective composition. You sure do get some wonderful conditions there. We get a sea mist here which comes quite far inland sometimes in the summer under stable high pressure conditions, but it's more like a bank of low cloud - difficult to get above it! Often turns what would be a gorgeous warm sunny day into a cold damp one...

Hi Tim,

In reply to your explanation on my previous comment, I agree, the (different) monitor (settings) have alot to do on how we perceive an image. I like to think mine is quite well calibrated, as a print matches what I see on screen. But I think there's an even more important issue here; Its also a subjective matter. When I look at a specific image, I like to try and get a feel of the atmosphere in a photo. IMO, a value photo is not only about the aestetic beauty, but also on the reaction it evokes with the viewer. I based my comment on that.

That subjective feeling / grasp of the atmosphere (I perceive( is definately different in this shot, as the fog only plays a subsidary role in this photo; aestetically, it's beautiful, the mood, however, is introduced by the trees and the way you composed them (ok, that's a shady difference) and the use of the side ways light. It creates a very nice effect, and it does feel like a damp autumn morning, but with a nice day ahead. That is what I like in this image.

Cheers,

Hugo

Excellent capture of the sunlit leaves, Tim! Great timing, and beautiful colours, throughout the shot!
Dave.

A moment of meteorological drama, well captured in a dramatic shot. The contrasty colours, dark sky, strong vertical trunks and horizontal shadows v. deciduous filigree, all add to the effect. And you kept your knees dry for once!

Barry Wakelin   {K:7838} 11/22/2004
Great light and colours and nicely composed. Stunning place you live!

Fadel J   {K:13747} 11/22/2004
Amazing lighting and colors Tim, fantastic all around!

Lee Harris   {K:14694} 11/23/2004
Excellent Tim.
I like the lighting on this image very much, not only on the yellow branches, I like the bases of the trunks being highlighted and the light, then shadows going across the grass is good to.
A beautiful sky....
Very well seen and captured.
Lee
