Wow, great shot of the woodpecker, Dave! I also like the texture of the bark of the tree and the snow on the branches. Very nice.

WOW!!! Wonderful capture, if it weren't for his stunning red head, you wouldn't be able to see him at all. Great great shot, Dottie

Larry Quigley   {K:12884} 11/27/2004
Great shot Dave. That red head really jumps out. Good job.

Neal Nye   {K:15827} 11/28/2004
What a treat. I've only seen one of these once before in my life. How fortunate that you were able catch him. I suppose from now on you won't even be able to go to the bathroom for fear of missing him.

Dave Stacey   {K:123016} 11/28/2004
You're right, Neal! I was lucky I had my camera nearby and got a few shots before he flew away, but I think I'll have to trim some branches or move the feeder to get a better angle before he comes back! Thanks for the comments!
Dave.

Dave Stacey   {K:123016} 11/28/2004
Hi Armando, thanks for the comment! The feeder contains a block of suet(basically fat)which contains a mixture of seeds and nuts. It seems most attractive to woodpeckers and nuthatches and crows, but songbirds and bluejays also occassionaly go to it.
Dave.

Den Thompson   {K:30432} 11/28/2004
WOW Dave. Right place - right time Eh? Fantastic capture of a gorgeous creature in natural habitat.Extremely well done.

Alison DuFlon   {K:36484} 11/28/2004
Great shot Dave, you have caught the intensity of his eyes and the colors and details beautifully. Alison

Neil White   {K:9088} 11/29/2004
Lucky - and well captured.

I regularly see Woodpeckers on Greenham Common, but they are always too far away and without something like a 1000mm lens I wouldn't stand a chance of capturing them.

Neil

Yours shots of living Nature are full of loving care, Dave. I like them very much.

There is a variant to crop this image in more narrow manner to stress woody himself, I guess.

Regards,
Serge

Richard Thornton   {K:26442} 11/29/2004
A magnificent bird. The surroundings are a little confusing, taking some impact away, but still very nice.

ade mcfade   {K:12388} 11/29/2004
I've never seen one of these before - they really do have incrfedible red heads. Thought that was just artistic liscence!

Hope you see him again soon

Ade

Beautiful bird, excellently captured, Dave. I captured one feeding his fledgling about half a year ago, but the colors were not as bright and glorious as yours.
Thank you for your comment on my "accident" series. Nobody was hurt, everything was insured and there will be a new car for us soon. Thanks for caring.
Best regards,
Rafi

Patrick Ziegler   {K:21666} 12/19/2004

I remember having commented on this photo, but it's so beautiful that it deserves to be used again. This time to thank you for your very friendly comments on my "More light 2", my "Bithday party" and my "Flower pot in windoe X 5".
Best refards,
Rafi

Angela Fox   {K:660} 12/26/2004
Wow! Your so lucky! I finally have a pair of cardinals at my feeders but haven't been able to get a clear shot of them. I'll post the two I did get but the sun was almost down when I took them so the lighting is poor.
