I think I understood your idea.To get sort of non figurative image,with a strong pattern,from the so called wall.However something did not do your purpose and I believe it was the software work.Do you use , im Photoshop CS the filter "Shadow/Highlight" ? It would do it nicely.Of course, if I follow your idea.If not, sorry, forget my words.
