Howie, who is this little girl? She is so photogenic! So serious too!! All are grat portraits, especially in B&W!

Tell me the differences between shooting in digital and film... if you don't mind ;o)

Hi Melanie

This is my daughter Stevie. Always helpful when I want to try something new :)

In general I prefer digital photography especially with the 20D. With black and white though, I just find that the dynamic range of film gives me far superior results than converting to black and white digitally. Its just my preference but I think a lot of photographers think the same way.

Thanks again for your comment :)

Howie

Thanks for the comment and looking at this capture Kel. The original photos were scanned in individually and then combined in Photoshop. All resized the same size and left a slight space between each one.

Thanks for explaining, Howie. I notice with my digi, even when I have it in B&W mode the tones are not so rich and crisp. So I end up taking them in color and converting them in PSP to B&W and then tweak the brightness and contrast until I get the tones I want. One of these days I will get a nice camera (digital AND film) and I will be able to experiment more.

By the way, your daughter is a real cutie and I love the unisex name!

This is a beautiful collection, and very nicely put together. These go great as a grouping and would look wonderful up in a prominent place on someone's wall....:) I hope you do! T.

Thanks for the comment Bea, always appreciate it from you. Im getting more and more into film as time goes on. I started photography about 4 years ago with my first camera. The Fuji Finepix 4700 and been selling and upgrading constantly over the last 4 years.

I now have an eos 1N and eos 20D. Although I feel I am far more proficient with digital as I have a great understanding of Photoshop, I'm really enjoying film. I've just ordered my first rolls of transparency film. 5 rolls of Astia, 3 rolls of Velvia 100F and 3 rolls of Profia 100F. I've managed to find a lab here in the UK in London (even though I live on the west coast of Wales) which are excellent value for money.

If the weather is good this weekend I will be going up Cader Idris which is one of the largest mountains in Wales (nearly 4000ft). We have more hills than mountains here in Wales. Fingers crossed my slides will come tomorrow otherwise I will have to use either my Neopan or Reala.

Over Christmas I'm hoping to get up Snowdon as well. Then in the spring up to Scotland and Summer over to Ireland. Who knows where after that LOL.

Thanks again Bea,

Howie
