About I grew this red amaryllis just for the photo.

Aperture f 16, slow shutter of 20 seconds. Shot indoors with one diffused incandescent bulb just to camera left. Small zebra reflector was used to throw light back on the anthers.

Shot in RAW mode with tripod, cable release, and mirror lock. ISO 200.

PS used for slight crop and very minor contrast adjustment.

Truthfully, none of the technical details are important.

Just enjoy, and have a wonderful holiday season.

Hi Mary Sue, I'm not sure what to be more impressed by: growing your subject for the perfect shot, or the wonderful detail and saturation of this shot... Hummm... I'll have to get back to you on that one... Cheers! Sam

Bella ed originale, splendida DOF.

You're right... nothing else matters except the beauty of this image. I love the delicate shades of red and how they are so vibrant but have so much detail.
I have to ask though, what the benefit is to using a zebra reflector... I'm guessing it's a striped reflector (gold & white?) but I have never used one so I don't know how it effects the image differently from a solid reflector.

Have a merry christmas, Mary Sue, and I look forward to another year of fabulous images!

Thanks for the comments about this image. It is something I've been dreaming about since I saw David Chang-Sang's red flower a while back.

Kim, the technical advantage to using a zebra reflector is that it is exactly half way between gold reflection and silver. Depending on the subject and the light source, half way between might be just the ticket.

But in pursuit of truthfulness, the reason I chose the zebra is that it was already in my hand. The other reflectors were in the other room. My choice was based on convenience (aka laziness)!

Merry Christmas!
