About Another shot of the disused TadcasterViaduct - taken with fellow Usefilmer and friend, Steve Bowden.

I think we both put up landscape shots of this, to I thought I'd be different and try a portrait instead.

Like the fuller reflections you ca get with this orientation.

lovely colours and composition. Good capture :)

Nice use of reflection. I also like the absence of people, befitting a viaduct that has survived longer than mere mortals.

(How old is it, by the way?)

Another great shot, Ade! It's amazing the difference a few steps make in the same area!

Hi Len,

I'm not to sure - It was a rail viaduct by yhe looks of it so probably early victorian at a guess.

Just looked it up and it says.....

This large imposing landmark was built by George Hudson , the work being completed together with a bridge over Wighill Lane in 1849. However Mr. Hudson ran into financial problems and the rest of the line remained unbuilt. It was not until 1882 that goods (used by the mill on the East side, now demolished) were brought across the River Wharfe by rail, using this viaduct. The last time the viaduct was used to fetch and carry goods was in 1955.

The viaduct was made a Grade 2 listed building and purchased by the Tadcaster Town Council for the use and pleasure of the local people. The Viaduct walk now runs from Wetherby road, right across it with access to both banks of the river

Cheers

Ade

PS...

Oh - another thing I did with this, to contrast to Steve Bowden's "warmer white balance" shot was to add a Cooling filter in Photoshop.

Main effect was to bluen the sky and river, but also the stonework on the bridge became a bit whiter too.

It's a lovely spot - and if it snows, does anyone fancy a meet there?

I like the portrait composition Ade, Toni turned mine into a postage stamp which looked really good. It was a good day - cold but the lighting was just spot on !

If it snows, in fact - lets just get back there and get some more photos ... I will bring gloves next time lol

I'll be up for a trip back any time. We could combine it with a few shots in York.

I'm still waiting for the insurance to get my 24-85! Getting frustrating now. I got a filter holder for the 15-30 and it vigniettes at 15mm. Get a nice black circle around it! Disappears at about 28-20mm so it's not a total cock up.

Here's what I do when not plaing photographer....

Aye

I'll be up for another trip. I'll show you the slightly longer route - it's about 2 miles and crosses the viaduct. We saw the interesting bits on Sunday, but it makes a longer day of it

Could nip up to York too - only a few miles off Taddy.

Not sure when I'll bee back from Lancs, but probably around the 28th or 29th, so have to meet up then.

One place I've never been and fancy for a photo weekend/day out is High Force. One for the new year.

Though you could argue that my 1000000 waterfall photos are enough for one portfolio!!

Cheers

Ade
