About I would love to shoot birds the way Marcus Armani & others do. This was a chance capture flying directly over me as I dodged traffic. Given another 10 minutes to think about settings, I'm sure I could have done better, though I would probably have been hit by a truck whilst fumbling. I'm amazed at what some people manage to capture. I'm just glad I got him in frame (I think the black mark on the beak means it's a 'he').

I think this is a wonderfully natural picture, with the curve of the wing giving a real impression of the power and energy needed for flight. It's a shot that would have been spoilt if there had been anything other than the blue sky in the background. As with so much, though, I guess there was a stroke of luck, as well as skill, in producing this!

I still think it is a superb capture Steve, the details in the feathers are great. It is always easy to criticise photographs after the shot has been taken, it is capturing it in the first place that counts and this is super :-)

Best wishes,
Steve

Congratulations Steve on what I consider to be a superb capture. I don't think it could be bettered. However much I try I'm still looking for the perfect capture. You can't get them to pose and you have no guidelines as to where they're going to fly, even if you see them in time. Very well done.

Hi Steve, this is a great capture, I have no doubt That If you wanted to take the time you could surpass my work or atleast equal it easily,
Bird photography is all about being in the right place at the right time, and patence, you have many great shots including birds, this bird in flight shot was taken from a car, a bird in flight is not a easy task for any photographer, but can you imagine if you were sitting there waiting for this guy to come along, ready to shoot, I am sure you would have a crystal clear well detailed shot..... keep up the great work, your friend Marcus....

I have a long way to go to catch up with you Marcus. Perhaps I may become 'as good'. I have no desire to be better, that's not what this is about.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I tend to be over-critical about my shots so your encouragement is much appreciated.

great shot, Steve. Aside from the little motion blur (which doesn't bother me too much) it is a perfect photo. I took photos of swans seriously for some time and spent hours & days to get the right moment. So don't be to self critical, it is a great photo.
