About The Mosque of Ibn Tulun was built in 879, it is the third congregational mosque in Fustat and it is the oldest of all mosques in Egypt to survive in anything like its original form.

The minaret is the most distinctive feature of Ibn Tulun Mosque, as it is of the Samarra mosques. It was the first minaret to be built in Egypt, and directly evoked the ?Abbasids and their mosques in Samarra.

The minaret is a famous Cairo landmark, it is Cairo's only minaret with a spiraling external staircase and its overall structure is unique in Egypt.
