About Leanne, one of my STUDENTS completed YEAR 12 last year. We teach photography as a major and this is an image completed for the final year of high school. I am interested in feedback from the usefilm community. We work from the original photograph and experiment in photoshop.

I, for one think this is awesome. First of all you started with a fantastic photo, wonderful capture of this special moment & emotion. Then this technique (not sure what you call it, but I like it) adds to the sense of fun & playfulness. It's almost as if a rainbow is shining down & illuminating them. Beautiful, orginal & a winner in my book. Dottie

Thanks Dottie. Leanne will be thrilled with your comments. Tom.
Ps, you do very good work yourself. I will have a good look. Thanks once again.

Ok, please share with us if you will how this was done. This is just beautiful.

Thanks Dave.
Leanne will be thrilled with your comments. The original image was placed in photoshop 7 and a layer copy was made. The original image was then made into a layer by double clicking on the image in the layer palette. That image had a threshold filter applied in the image menu which converted that image to black and white and stark contrasts. The layer above which is in colour had the opacity reduced so the threshold layer showed through. The colour layer above was manipulated many times in image adjustment and hue saturation until Leanne was happy with the final result.
Thanks again for your interest.

This is a great fun photo. The PS work is done very effectively in this shot. Please tell Leanne congrats on YEAR 12 and let her know I think her work is wonderful.

You have done a wonderful job sharing your knowledge & skills with her.

Regards,
Carla

Dear Carla,
Thankyou so much for all the feedback you have left. The students will be absolutely thrilled with your comments. I believe that these senior kids have so much talent and enthusiasm and it is so important that people like you take the time and trouble to comment on their work. I have found usefilm.com a wonderful opportunity to not only display my work but also the best of theirs. In all honesty the usefilm community are a wonderful and diverse group from so many parts of the world and their comments are more helpful than those who have not the same goal and strive for excellence in their visual images. You are a gem.

My appologies Tom, I didn't realize the other photos were the work of students as well. Please do share my comment with them. You are also welcome to share work from my portfolio as needed. Some photos that have had effective 'constuctive criticisms', which I have tried to correct are: Good Friend, Wood Stove, & Someone Get the Door

I also have a few PS manipulated photos in my portfolio. Please let me know if there is anything I can share to help explain my methods.

It would be a great exercise for the students to try to rework their images & repost, whether they agree with the critique or not, they may like the outcome and will learn someone else's perspective. Because we sometime put our heart into our work, it is difficult to hear someone suggest a change.

Best Regards to you & your talented class.
Carla
