About A shoe-polisher (shoe-shiner) sitting in the street is a common finding as you walk in the streets of Cairo .

This shoe-polisher was happy to be photographed. You can see the effect of motion on his hand holding the brush and the shoe.

I caputred this photo in Sayeda Nafisa - Cairo.

Very good candid street photo! Contrast, tones and lighting are very good. I think b&w was a great choice for this image.

ARMANDO ALCÁZAR   {K:42656} 1/4/2005
excellent pic and perfect B&W, you have captured a very beautiful expression of pride to their work and he should be proud because the shoe that next to him is very well polished and with a lot of shine. congratulations and God bless you: D

Great expression captured here Khaled,is that look on his face because of a smelly shoe or the shock of photo been taken.

I really like this shot! The B&W definitely adds some drama to it!

Nour El Refai   {K:13778} 1/4/2005
Great shot for the man, but i don't like the messy background, a little bit distracting

Carlos     {K:12969} 1/4/2005
Nour?s right, Khaled.
A picture such as this works best close in and intimate...
? particularly when the opportunity presented itself, as is the case here,
of the man?s easy and approachable demeanour, ready to harvest?
Still, a soulful picture..

Khaled,
Another very nice shot. Shoeshiners are always people that I find almost heroic in Cairo. Even though they know that within 5 minutes of their work the shoes will be dusty again (like the background suggests), they still take such pride in their work and never get demoralised by their never ending struggle!
Regards,
Omar

This is excellent. I like the way you have zoomed right in and captured the motion of the activity as well as the wonderful expression on the mans face. I like the way he seems to be very experienced at this work and yet his own shoes are quite dull.

It just goes to show that he obviously puts other people before himself.

Saeed Al Shamsi   {K:47538} 1/5/2005
Great character capture, although he is busy in action but prefer and happy to show an interest to be photographed, an interesting B&W image which carries more than one subject, wonderful subject with a respected gentleman live with his works. Superb.Saeed
